I need some help installing ac'97 drivers on windows 10

michadevries

Hi forum members,

i just got my new pc with the following specs:

-mobo: supermicro x7da8

-cpu: 2x intel xeon e5335 @ 2.00GHZ

-ram: 4x2gb ecc ddr2

-gpu: nvidia geforce 8600 gts

-os: windows 10 pro

but now i've got an issue with my audio drivers, because they're realtek ac'97...

i've tried many tutorials on youtube, but there all based on "updating multimedia device", which i don't have...

can someone please help me?

Micha

To install the audio driver should just be as simple as downloading it from the manufacturers website and running the setup file.

This is an old setup though and it's a server motherboard at that. Also you're running a very late OS on it. You may run into compatibility issues.

Going to the Supermicro website I'm not seeing an audio driver at all which isn't all that surprising. Without the driver does the audio work at all? Windows 10 is fairly good at coming with compatible drivers.

well, if you set the os to windows xp they've got a driver, but that doesn't work too

If you run the WDM_A398.exe installer how far do you get before running into errors?

it configures the driver, and then it closes and no driver has been installed

I take it you're checking under Programs & Features? Since this is a server motherboard you might not get the Realtech control panel.

Did you try checking the installation directory to see if it went there?

Go to C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log and see if it mentions any audio drivers being missing. Errors are marked with !

You need to Quote them so they get your reply (the arrow next to the plus sign). Without Quoting them you may never get a reply back unless they come back and check the topic on their own.

You can highlight text if you only want to Quote a section of text. A "Quote this" box will pop up when you select the highlighted text.

You can also type @ then type their user name. For example @williamcll their name gets highlighted and they're notified that you want them to read a message.
