Ryzen x470 mb 8+4 pin power

Some ryzen x470 has 8 and 4 pin  power for the cpu, should you use both?

 

How do you connect the last 4 pin power, cpu on my power supply is 8 pin and there only one 8 pin connection on my power supply, do i have to use vga ?

Just leave the 4pin outside if you dont have the connector for it. Buildzoid pointed out that the 8pin EPS itself provides enough power even for heavy OC under liquid nitrogen, which means it's certainly enough for the general users. It's not like the motherboard will fail to post without that 4pin plugged in either.

General question is a GIGABYTE X470 AORUS GAMING 7 WIFI a good mb or is there any high end X470 mb that are a better buy

it is a very good motherboard itself, other than the aggressive LLC settings.

 

At US prices, there arent other premium x470 boards that can offer the same or more number of features for less money.

The 4 pin is optional.

 

Through a 8 pin connector you can give up to around 300-350 watts to the VRM (then circuit which powers the processor).  A Ryzen 8 core processor will peak at around 150-175 watts, and maybe have brief moments - like milliseconds- when it uses up to 200 watts.... so nowhere close to the maximum possible.

 

The 4 pin connector is there more or less in case someone would want to use the motherboard to do some extreme overclocking, with very high voltages and LN2 or other super cold liquids.

 

For regular usage, adding an extra power cable in the 4 pin connector wouldn't make any difference.

you onluy need to use the 4 pin connector iff your using tec cooling phase change cooling or liquide nitrogen if your using air or water you dont need it

Then most X470 boards are going to be overkill. Even the ROG Strix X370-F Gaming I have my Ryzen 5 1600X in is probably overkill.

 

I mean, the reasons why you'd want any of the X470 boards in this price bracket are as varied as the boards themselves. Do you want an integrated I/O shield? Ridiculous power delivery if you move to an eight-core? Addressable RGB headers? How many LEDs do you want, a number which varies from zero to an integer best described as "Gigabyte's design engineers drank too much Red Bull again"? These are questions only you can answer, but there aren't really any bad boards in this price stratum.

Ryzen 1xxx series used to consume up to 140 watts per 8 cores, so around 18-20w per core. The 2xxx series goes to around 175w per 8 core, so around 22-25w per core ... so your 2600 with 6 cores is probably not gonna use more than 150 watts even when overclocked..

 

And 4ghz is not much.... but you may be able to tweak the power consumption a bit depending on the voltage you set.

ryzen 2.... is a new and im going a bit slow, meaning i had it on aut and it would run 3.8-3.9ghz depending on buss speed now on 4ghz with 1.200 volt and llc2

Thanks for the help, i ordered one so i can get all the new features and max performance (relative to it being a high end X470 mb not so much the fastest Z470 mb)
