Is it worth $200

I just wanted opinions on if it is worth spending an extra $200 to get a 1070 rather than a 1060. I’m not looking to get 4K. Just want to be able to play at 1080p get at least 60fps and play the games on medium to high settings

what 1060 is $200 less than the GTX 1070 in your area? 3GB or 6GB?

For me the price delta of yours ($200, i would say $150 or less is acceptable) is too much if you go to the GTX 1070 from 1060, sure the 1070 will do 1440p 60 FPS just fine but if the GTX 1070 was $150 more expensive than a 1060 6GB i will get 1070 if i really need to game at 1440p.

 

also one thing a 1060 will do the job just right if you want 1080p 60FPS at med

Yeah a 1060 6gb is $520 where a 1070 is $720

I got the 1070 and most games run just fine at ultra, 1440p and between 60 and 144 fps, but I wouldn't bother getting the 1070 if you don't plan on getting some 1440p/144hz monitor

Sorry but this is my first build, and this may sound silly but what is the benefit of more fps

I'd personally go a little overkill so you're not dying for a gpu upgrade in a year or two. I'm glad I spent extra on a 970 for only 1080p back in 2014 so that I'm not even considering a gpu upgrade until late this year at the earliest. Then again overkill was $330 back then and not $400 to $500 like now. If I was going to buy a gpu now at the end of this gen I'd definitely go overkill with the 1070 Ti since it's not a lot more expensive than the 1070 if you get lucky and find it in stock.

Depends on the type of games you'll be playing.Some games are GPU intensive and others are CPU intensive. As well as which programs you're going to be using to do photo editing. If you're using the latest gen of CPUs then an i5 should be more than enough to handle all of that.

So it depends on your needs and your budget, if you plan to play AAA games in ultra for the next 4 years, then get the i7 8700K, if you plan on playing high/medium settings on the next 4 years, buy the i5 8600K, both are good for some gaming and light editing
