Feedback on build parts

UhhCobyy

I am relatively new to PC's in general as I currently have an IMac but it's now getting to the point where I am unable to play games. So I know its awful timing with data mining but I need a gaming PC so here are my parts and I'd love feedback just as long as its constructive. Thanks

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Cobe/saved/#view=RD3Gf7

Budget was supposed to be around £1000.

From current feedback I change some parts: here is the updated version https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Cobe/saved/#view=GJV9WZ

You're gonna want to change that PSU, but otherwise it's good.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

More/faster RAM wouldn't be missed. If you want to upgrade to 16 in future you'd need to buy another of the exact same stick.

HEADS UP, THIS ACCOUNT IS INACTIVE NOW

I'm keeping everything else the way it was for anyone who might check out my answers in future, but I won't be using LTT.

Don't get Kaby, either get Coffee or Ryzen. The 8600K performs about the same, but has an upgrade path. For gaming, the 8400 is plenty.

Don't get the 212 Evo. It performs worse than smaller and cheaper coolers.

Don't get a locked motherboard for an unlocked CPU.

Get faster RAM, the difference in performance is greater than the difference in cost.

Get an SSD if possible.

Don't get the CX500, it's crappy and overpriced. If you're on a budget, get something like the Pure Power 10 400W, Vengeance or CX450/M.

Something like this makes more sense, imo. Add the 1070 and monitor, the total cost is about the same.

Consider a newer generation of cpu with a better cpu cooler. A micro-ATX case would be a better fit for the motherboard. That or get an ATX motherboard. A better psu would also be a good idea. (CX500 is the previous generation of CX/CXM psu. Dual channel memory will add a tad more performance.

Surely if I can go for an i7 I should instead of an i5, I updated the build so I am using an ATX motherboard instead of Micro ATX, https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Cobe/saved/#view=GJV9WZ Look at the PC Build MK2

Just because 7 is a higher number than 5, doesn't mean that it's better, or that it makes any sense at all

Nope, but I have had 2 days to research PC parts. But my logic is that i7 is a newer model, so its better. Guess not. So only thing I need to change is swap to an i5?

Here's Intel's website for explaining the numbers

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor-numbers.html

For an 8th gen CPU, you'll need a Z370 motherboard. The 8400 comes with a cooler, just use that one. Get faster RAM, brand doesn't matter. Imo, a 250GB SSD makes more sense than a 1TB HDD, which can be added later without hassle.

The i5-8600K has roughly the same stock performance as the i7-7700K. Principally because it has six cores instead of four hyperthreaded cores.

If you want an i7, go for the i7-8700 or i7-8700K.

Ok thanks for the advice, I accidentally removed my custom prices but I think this is everything you guys suggested. (Ram, Motherboard and CPU) I really cant push the budget anymore so I will have to leave the ssd until a later date. If there is anything else feel free to say.

Use the [bb] button to get a nicely formatted list.

With a few small adjustments you can squeeze in a decent size ssd for just a few more $.
