Jesus Christ this thread defines why literally no one likes the audio sub forums apart from it's own dwellings who throw charts at each other and spend 8 hours a day arguing which pair of overpriced garbage sounds better

"Overpriced garbage" You are calling all audiophile headphones overpriced garbage?

U.S. DT770 80ohm is $150 and 250ohm is $170.

Some people say the different impedance sound slightly different, but I'm not sure.

K7XX is 62ohm. And impedance doesn't mean anything for how hard they are to drive.

then why are linus using the audezee lcd 2 and DT990 as reference

i thought because the impedance

also i was wrong, it should be the Sennheisser 598

Because once again Linus knows nothing about headphones. The two hardest headphones ever to drive are the Fostex T50RP and the Hifiman HE6. Both are 50ohm. Sensitivity is what affects how hard they are to drive. That is how many decibels it can make per mW of power. And the HD598 is also 50ohm. There are many 300ohm and 600ohm headphones that are not crazy hard to drive.

LCD2s are 70ohm, 990s are 250ohm.

I don’t like any gaming headsets because they are all terrible sound quality for the money.

In my neck of the woods, I can get a Logitech G933 for about as much as I'd paid for my HD6XX (some places sell the G933 at about 250USD!), even a used HD6XX can be had for a lower price. One enterprising guy is even selling brand new HD6XX's at about 250USD each. Sure, the G933 is all fancy looking and I suppose is great for gaming (IF one's primary concern is gaming) but surely one wants to listen to music at one time or another, this is when gaming headsets suffer that epic fail. Right now, I'm listening to some DSD tracks on my HE4XX/HD6XX + iFi Nano iDSD (all my other audio gear are packed in boxes for the big move) and it's a pretty damn good and satisfying experience.

Edit - I gotta say, this little DAC combo by iFi is really quite powerful, it handles both my HD6XX and HE4XX easily enough with volume knob at 1 o'clock, nice little portable unit like its bigger, much more powerful and newer sibling (iFi Micro iDSD BL)

That iDSD BL is definitely on my list of pickups. #1 I’m still going for a pair of Ether Flow C. #2 is a tube Amp. iDSD is probably 4 or 5 on my list.

google the words audio technica m series, then in big letters see the word monitor series. Then realize you messed up for not using them as monitor headphones but instead as some gaming or high fidelity audio experience.

I don’t think you understand what monitoring headphones are. For starters I have run events where I’ve had to monitor through a sound board, and these are not for that. Monitoring headphones are supposed to be very flat and neutral so they don’t change the sound from the source. Therefor you can accurately make changes in the mix. The M50Xs are anything but flat and neutral. And 99% of people who buy M50Xs aren’t using them for monitoring. They are being used for music and gaming.

People say they need headphones to be flat for monitoring, but that's nonsense. You mix to the speaker not the headphones. Audience isnt hearing your headphones.

Monitor headphones need to be loud and have a good repair service or very repairable. Audio Technica have a good customer service. Not as repairable as like senny hd25s, but they went anal as fuck for build quality and repairability when they made those headphones.

You classify monitoring headphones as headphones that play loud and have a good warranty...... And people absolutely master and mix on headphones. They need to be flat so are are hearing the music as closed to the original source as possible. I know everyone else won't hear it through your headphones, but their headphones and speakers will tweak the sound accordingly.

I think your getting mistaken with studio engineers, who don't use monitor headphones.

These are front of house monitor headphones. They have to out-compete with 100dB at front of house, as well as not break when they get launched in a flight case.
Bonus points for having the ability to only wear one ear cup so you can hear front of house and the headphones.

These headphones are very common for this job.

These headphones don't get any louder than virtually any other headphones. And they are not flat so they suck for monitoring. There are other options for sure in the same price range.
