My School and gaming rig

Umbriona

Hi, just three weeks ago I bought and assembled my new rig that I use for both school work and for gaming. I did end up reusing my old case from fractal design  (budget issue :P). The choice of using my old graphics card with my new one is just to see if i can target a specific device when executing cuda  code and if you can do some optimisation using two graphics cards even though the performance difference is so large. For gaming I'm happy i have a smooth experience always, I do however not play that demanding games, SWTOR with a 1080p screan. It was not for the gaming experience i built this system but rather to accelerate  my school work which involves running many different types of simulations and machine learning algorithms. That's why I wanted a high core count for distributed/parallel computing, that also was in my price range. As to why i went with intel's x series over amd's threadriper I don't have a good answer other then that I have had intel processors sins i was little and had no courage to switch now, and the overall cost was lower for the intel system. For the GPU the choice was simple  I had in my budget room for a 1080ti  and the extra premium for a Titan xp is definitely not worth it for me at this point, maybe in a few years when i have finished school and have the money i can upgrade to something like the Titan V ^_^. As for ram I did not spend the extra for 3200MHz sticks sins i figured it would bee fast enough with four 8GB sticks in quad channel mode, for me at least. For the power supply I just went with the cheapest 750w of a reputable brand that i could find. CPU cooler was little of an after thought for me sins i had been counting on using my old one, but that one did not fit the new socket. So i got Be Quiet's Pure Rock, not the strongest of coolers but a good value sins i have not had any problems with it so far, no OC though. Well that's it for my rig, pleas comment if you find something odd, or straight out bad with my rig or my reasoning.

My system:

Motherboard msi raider 299x

CPU i7 7820x

GPU msi gtx 1080ti + (my old card) asus gtx 960

RAM HyperX 2400 32GB

Storage samsung 250GB ssd + seagate 2TB hdd

PSU Cooler master 750w 80+ bronze

CPU Cooler Be quiet Pure Rock

G750M ^_^

A build like this should at least get a tier 2 unit. Even budget builds need tier 3. The one you have is tier 4....

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Your system is working fine with that PSU?? 750W and 80+ bronze PSU with that 1080ti? Anyway except that PSU your rig is a beast :) Did you OC-ed your CPU? If yes, you should buy a better cpu cooler like a cheaper Corsair Hydro unit, maybe NZXT. I've got the same cooler with my overclockless 6700K which is a bit strange. And if you put your gtx 960 in SLI that could be bring issues in fps in some games. Anyway good rig. : )))))

PC: i7 6700K@4GHz, EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW, HyperX Savage 16GB@2400MHz (2×8), ASUS B150-PLUS, BQ! Pure Rock cpu cooler, 4x blue LED fan (3x Sharkoon, 1x Corsair), WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM, Sharkoon DG7000 case

GearSamsung U28E570D 4K@60Hz, LG LED 22M35 1080p@60Hz, HAMA uRage Cyberboard keyboard, HAMA uRage Reaper NX mouse, HyperX Cloud II 7.1, Logitech Z623 2.1 @200W RMS, Sades Gaming mousepad, Vertagear SL2000 racing chair (black/white)

Thanks for your input, I will be looking in to the possibility of replacing it with a tier 2 unit. I have not had any problem with my system so far though, however I have not stress tested both the CPU and the GPU at the same time. Thanks again ^_^

Yeah I have not had any problems so far at least, but we will see once i run long heavy computation simulations that use the system to max if the story is the same. I will see if i can replace it if it causes any problems. My gtx 960 is not in SLI, its just for some extra calculations in some specific simulations that would benefit from two devises ^_^. I have not overclocked my cpu yet, although in the future when I have the means i will invest in a better cooler and see what this puppy can do ^_^ And Thanks ^_^
