MSI Afterburner not working

Hi all,

 

I recently built a new computer purpose built for mining. It has two RX560 4GB's (One Sapphire, one asus) with a 750w power supply behind it. I've been having a lot of stability issues so I was going to underclock my cards a bit, I have the latest AMD drivers installed as this is a brand new pc. I was trying to use Afterburner however the core clock and all the other slides are at zero and won't move even if I manually enter a value. I've made sure crossfire is enabled in AMD's software and I've disabled ULPS in Afterburner too. When checking the GPU's with GPUz it shows both, on the first screen for the 1st GPU it says Crossfire is Enabled(2 GPUs) however if I go to the second card it says its disabled. Also most of the softwares don't get the full sensor readings for the second card. 

 

If I go into AMD WattMan it shows both cards with their clocks etc. If i use that to play around with the core clock (in my case knocking it down a certain percentage) it makes no change in the stability or my clocks which I'm reading through GPUz and Afterburner. I was wondering if I've done something wrong.

 

Steps I used:

1) Build pc, plug both cards in

2) Install windows (have display connected to top card)

3) Install AMD's driver (small version) [COULD THIS BE MY ERROR? I DIDN'T GET THE FULL BIG VERSION WITH RELIVE]

4) That's it, I checked if crossfire was enabled in AMD's software and hoped for the best

Also I noticed that the 2nd card doesn't get used at all, if I'm using Kombuster the first card gets taxed and the second stays idling (fans off)

The second GPU is in 'Zero Core' mode (AKA hibernate), so it is showing 0 MHz Core, 0 MHz Memory, etc.

When setup in Crossfire mode, if a 3D application is started (e.g. a game), the second card should kick in.

Try running 3D Mark, Unigine Valley...or like I said, a game that has multi-GPU support.

 

By the way, I don't know why you are running your two cards in Crossfire when you are using them to mine.

The second card acts as a "slave" to the primary, and the data that it receives is a duplicate of what the primary card gets.

Oh what!? I was under the impression that they had to be in crossfire. Do I disable CF?

Crossfire functions the same as nVidia SLI.

Disabling Crossfire allows the GPUs to run independently...which is what you want for mining...

 

Crossfire is enabled / disabled in the driver software -- Crossfire doesn't require a bridge connector.

  1. Open up Radeon Settings
  2. Navigate to 'Gaming' >> 'Global Settings'
  3. There should be a setting showing up as 'AMD Crossfire'...toggle it to [OFF]

If you're gaming, then you want Crossfire enabled so they run together, as a team, to pump out the most FPS.

It's the direct opposite for crypto mining.

MSI Afterburner 4.4.0 Beta 16 + RTSS Beta 28 are the latest versions, try them.
