Upgrade to a 1070

Chris Blackwing

So let me make this clear before I start, my budget is not that flexible.

Is a downgrade from a ryzen 1700 with a X370 mobo to a ryzen 1600 with B350 mobo worth the upgrade from a GTX 1060 6gb to a GTX 1070 ?

Any other combination in the same cost with better results n performance is welcome

If you don't need the 8 cores and don't do SLI, then go for it, though wait with that 1070. If Vega 56 launches at around the same price it might be the better buy.

Been stated but unless your going to need 8 cores, or SLI there is no point in the 370 platform. But out of curiosity, what is your budget? Does downgrading the mother board, but not the CPU leave enough left for a 1070?

Only gaming then yes.

Heavy streaming/video editing and other work task that requires multi threaded performance  then maybe no.

If your ok with a mini, which in my experience there is very little performance difference. The Zotac 1070 is on sale for $379. Then you can use the extra $100 you saved, buy a 1700 and a 350 combo

Much better deal than $470 for a 1070. If youre going to get a 1070 for that much ($470) you need to save another $40 and get a 1080.

Apart from gaming i do plan to do some editing, i still edit some vids from my xbox one, 1080p 60fps using a really crappy A8 6410 n a Radeon HD8570 ;-;

So will that downgrade in the cpu affect that ?

More cores will help with Editing. The 1600 is great because you get two extra cores and 12 threads, so for gaming/editing it is a great value. But like I said you can get a 1700 which when OC will perform better, and 2 extra cores/threads within your budget.

M worried about the mini tho, arent mini's in the middle ground between the 1060 n 1070 ? Or m i misguided ?

No not at all. Mini's just usually have a slightly lower clock and TDP, and wouldn't OC as high, but in terms of pure fps? Like a 3-5 FPS difference.
