Picking between ATH-AD700X vs Sennheiser HD 598 SE

Flam3Alchemist

Hey guys , finally decided on the 2 headphones that I would like to purchase . They are both selling for the same price in my country so no differences there .

I use it for Audio/gaming/anime/movies along with a Fiio Q1 with my entire collection being FLAC for the most part (Almost 90% of my songs are Japanese).  Would like the female vocals to be presented perfectly with good instrument seperation and detail  .I play MMO's like Final Fantasy 14 so positional audio is something I don't care about , just a good sound stage hence the choice of open back headphones .

Which would you guys recommend offers the best sound quality as well as value for the price .

Cant say much about 598 as I never tried myself., but those audio technica headphones have little to no bass.

Just be aware of that.

For vocals the hd700xs are very good (in that price range), plus it has a large soundstage, but as StormEye said, it has very little bass. When I had ad900xs I used an app called Equalizer APO to raise +5dB from 20 to 160hz, and it was good for me, I loved it, but for electronic music its pretty bad. (The raised low frequencies will overwhelm the vocals and the mid/upper range, so be aware of that).

Also my buddy has 598s and when I tried them it was uncomfortable af (maybe it was too used, but still).

TLDR; For gaming, movies, songs with lots of vocals(but not electronic with much bass): ad700x. I wouldnt get the 598s ever.

598s uncomfortable? You do realise that these headphones are generally seen as one of the most comfortables on the market right?

Well, I've tried the HD598, HD700 (sold), HD800 (owned) and HD555 (sold), I find none to be uncomfortable. With the HD555, the clamping force was just a tad tight but nowhere close to being unbearable. The AD700X doesn't have a tight clamping force, relying somewhat on the 'wings' to hold it in place, both aren't known for bass, but be aware that the AD700X is really a lightweight when it comes to bass. Its soundstage makes up for it though.....
