Better CPU or GPU

I am getting a laptop but i cant decide whether to get a 6th gen i7 6500u and a 960m or a 6th gen i5 6500hq and a 1060. What would be better for games like GTA V and forza horizon 3.

1060. 960m isn't particularly powerful, and the i5 shouldn't be a bottleneck.

Alright. Thanks for the quick response. The laptop does have 8gb ram so should I upgrade that to 16 when i can afford it?

do you mean i5 6300hq, and go with the i5 build as according to userbenchmack the i5 is better than the i7 anyways

If you see ram usage go above 90%, you should.

Definitely i5. The difference between a 960M and a 1060 is H U G E. A last gen mobile GPU against a brand new desktop GPU.

I think you know which is best

Yup get the i5 based one. That 1060 is a LOT more powerful than a desktop 960, and the 960m is, well, not comparable to a 1060 at all.

not until you can afford it, but yea it might be a good idea in the long run

i7 6500u is slower than i5 6500HQ

You should wait till you can afford at least a 6700hq laptop though, The 6300hq is dreadfully slow, topping out at 2.8ghz I believe?

definitely the 1060 model . That i5 is a quad core , compared to that dual core i7 , and you get a significantly faster gpu.

Alright. I ordered the laptop with the 1060 and i'll only get more ram when I can afford it, if i feel I need it.
