Ethereum blockchain not syncing

I'm trying to setup my PC so I can mine while not using it. I have both Geth and the Ethereum wallet app. My issue is that before I can do anything the blockchain has to sync. It'll sync a few thousand blocks, then it will stop syncing completely. Restarting it will resume download but it will keep freezing up.

 

Any suggestions?
