Start F@H now my pc is loud

So i started folding at home and he first thing i noticed is that my pc suddenly got louder, the sound seems to be coming from the psu (fan spinning faster.

is this becuase f@h is more stressful on a system than a stress test, my cpu is sucking 170w according to aida64?

F@H is designed to rape your PC for science, so it's only logical that fans would start spinning faster.

Well, I would be worried if it didn't get louder. F@H, if allowed, will use absolutely all resources it can get. Your computer getting louder is your fans responding to the change in temperatures, running higher. Your PSU might even shut off the fan when it's cold enough, so that's probably why you noticed the difference there.

Well yeah, like I said, that's how air cooling works. Fans run at variable speeds, based on temperatures. When the PSU gets hot, the fan spins faster.

Probably not more than a stress test,

but yes the psu fan is spinning up to

dissipate the extra heat generated. 

 

I doubt it's something to worry about,

and you likely can't do much about it

aside from getting a different psu, clean

the dust filters if you have any. 

 

My silver power psu is absolutely 

horrible if i stress both gpus at once,

i try to keep it below the load where the

fan goes crazy.  Just because i don't

want to listen to it, nothing else.

hmmm i have completed CPU tasks but it hasnt gone onto the next task do i have to wait for gpu task to be done also?
