I am looking for a monitor for my build, I need your help!

VicRik

Hi guys!

I will be building myself a PC soon, however I still need to select my monitor. I'd like a 144hz monitor at 1080p or 1440p. My budget is around $300 (I hope that is possible). Thanks a lot for you guys' help!

My planned build if anyone is interested:

CPU: Intel Core I5 7600K

CPU Cooler: Cryorig H7

GPU: MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X

Motherboard: MSI Z270 SLI Plus

RAM: Kingston HyperX RAM 16GB

Boot SSD: Kingston HyperX 120GB

HDD: WD Blue 1TB

Case: NZXT S340 Elite Black/Red

PSU: EVGA 650BQ

EDIT: Apperently monitors are really expensive in the Netherlands. :( For example the monitors Xenostech mentioned are above 320€ (339$)

Kind regards,

VicRik

Personally after a lot of trial and error (came from a 24" 1080p TN, went to a 25" 1440p IPS, then a 28" 4k TN, and now....) finally found my absolute favorite monitor for that price point:

LG29UM68

I have the LG29UM67, the 68 is just the next gen. It features 75Hz and freesync, however obviously you won't use freesync. Still, the 75Hz is nice IMHO.

This is a preference thing for sure, but the higher resolutions were just nice at the beginning and then it was kinda like "meh" for me. The ultrawide is so nice when gaming.

PC: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @4.2HGhz 1.25V || Noctua NH-U12S SE2 || 16GB (2×8GB) Aegis 3000Mhz CL16 @3200Mhz ||
|| Sapphire Pulse RX 6700 10G || MSI B450i Gaming PLUS MAX Wifi
  || Kingston NV1 2TB m.2 ||  Corsair SF600 || Intertech IM 1 |||
Peripherals: Sennheiser PC  360 G4ME || AOC CQ27G2U || Viewsonic PX701HD || Keychron V1 || Logitech G303 Shroud Edition||| Laptop: XPS 13 2in1 7390 || Steam Deck 256 GB (64GB Version) ||| Cameras: Fujifilm XH-1 || Fujifilm X100T

Do you happen to know how big the difference is between 60hz and 75hz, and also the difference between 75hz and 144h?

Would definitely agree. I have those at my office and they're really good.

The difference between 60Hz and 75Hz isn't really noticeable. Between 75Hz and 144Hz though, If your PC can push it, which yours will, It's amazingly different.

It's the refresh rate. 60Hz = a max of 60FPS, 75Hz = a max of 75FPS, 144Hz = a max of 144FPS.

Would you say the widescreen is worth the lower refresh rate?

IMHO you cannot just say one is better than the other. Again we are talking about preference and use cases.

Are you playing competetively? Definitely get 144hz. Counterstrike and the likes benefit from those high refresh rates and quicker response times.

Are you a regular gamer like me and care a bit more about image quality and immersion? get the ultrawide. It really makes you feel more like you are in the game.

By no means is the LG29um68 a monitor with slow response times. It is actually pretty fast for an IPS panel and defeintely a gamers delight, but of course it can't keep up with a 144hz TN panel.
