Arctic Freezer i32 Plus

With processor getting more efficient and producing less heat, having your cpu fan spin while the machine is idle can be a waste of energy. Arctic seems to agree with this as they have released a new cpu cooler called the Arctic Freezer I32 Plus. The cooler has a dimension of 123mm wide, 102mm in depth, 150mm in height, 4 direct contact 6mm copper heatpipes, and weights 752 grams. It comes with dual 120mm FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) coolers that operates at a maximum of 1,350 rpm and has a unique feature, where it can operate in passive mode or 0 RPM mode when your system is idle or running light weight task.

The fans are PWM controlled, but they have a rather unusual speed curve: Up to 40% PWM cycle the fans won’t spin at all, and from there they’ll start spinning all the way up to their maximum 1,350RPM at a 100% duty cycle.

So far it only supports Intel mainstream sockets and NLM based enthusiast socket, like the one found on the Asrock X99E-ITX/AC, but not the standard types or AMD sockets. The cooler cost around $50 dollars and comes with a 6 year limited warranty.

Many motherboards already allow this through their fan control, but it is interesting to see the fans take care of this automagically for you.

Passive mode isn't that beneficial to everyone though. As much as I like silent systems, the noise level at 1350 RPM is lower than the ambient noise in my computer room with everything off.

You can make a 0rpm mode with basically any controllable fan. They be pitting this against the 212...

Good the 212 is kinda overpriced since it's hype, maybe better options at the same price if you ask me.

TL;DR, its this incorporated into a fan:

Edit: BTW, ignore the CPU fan, that's what an early LGA775 P4 cooler+dirt cheap 0.9 W/(mK) thermal compound gets you-heatsink maximum TDP cut in half.
