Nintendo might've redistributed a emulated version of Super Mario Bros

The short is that someone noticed the ROM file for Super Mario Bros (SMB) distributed on the Virtual Console contains a signature similar to one of an SMB ROM dump. However I'm not going to jump immediately on Nintendo for being hypocrites.

For one, this wiki which has information on the current NES ROM dump file format, the iNES format apparently is licensed by Nintendo: https://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/INES

Quote

The .NES file format (file name suffix .nes) is the de facto standard for distribution of NES binary programs, with use even in licensed emulators such as commercialized PocketNES and Wii Virtual Console

Which means that Nintendo could've dumped SMB into the iNES ROM format just for compatibility/ease of development reasons.

The other is even if Nintendo downloaded the ROM from the internet, as being posited here... it's their freaking game and their IP.

They can't even do a locked 30 fps at 900p with Zelda.
