R7 260X CROSSFIRE with HD 7870 Graphics card

That Tech Guy

I currently use a R7 260X in my PC.

a co-worker has an old graphics card that he is not using, the HD 7870.

would I be able to get these two cards to work together in crossfire for a performance boost or is it only possible with a HD 7790?

Only the HD can be used with each other, same goes to R7 and R9

See their full conpatibilty chart

You can CF 7000/200/300 series cards if they have the same core.

So 390/290

280/280x/7970/7950 (not positive about 380/x)

270/270x/7870/7850

260x/7790

etc...

yeah. They're basically the same GPU(s). Crossfire just requires the same core.

I have them both in my PC but i can use only one or the other. Maybe there is a way to trick the computer into thinking that the 7870 is a 7790... wishful thinking i know.

yeah....no, that you can't do. But, for what it's worth 260x CF probably wouldn't be much faster than a 7870 (and it would be a lot worse in games that don't support CF/games that want more than 1gb of VRAM)

Both cards have 2GB of VRAM... yes i know that the 7870 performs better than the 260X. It is about 5-10fps faster in rise of the tomb raider on Very High preset and no anti aliasing

If that was a 270X, you'd be able to crossfire, but the 260/260X is an entirely different GPU core.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here
