Problems achieving 85hz on a 85 hz monitor.

AleksanderK

Hello, my Asus VK278Q used to be connected to my GTX 780 Reference edition via DVI. However, my monitor could only display 60hz using DVI so I switched to a HDMI cable from my PS4. THe monitor still cant display full 85 hz and i have no idea why.

For 1080p, HDMI on the GTX 780 will support a maximum of 60Hz(I think). If you want a higher refresh rate, you may need to change it in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Create a custom resolution then using "Customize." Bear in mind that you will probably require DVI.

Are you still using HDMI?

Yes, I am. It works at 65 hz but everything above make the monitor black out.

Switch back to DVI.

Why?

HDMI 1.4 may not be able to handle anything above 65Hz which is why you're getting a blackout.

You meanie :(

On topic, if you can push it to 75 then that's good enough already.

The difference between 60 and 75 is fairly noticeable compared to 75 to 100, you get the point.

The user is trying to push 85Hz. Besides, it's enabling the person to learn a little bit as well.

Oh, I forgot to mention that 85 hz IS the native resolution of the monitor.

Strange, when I took this screenshot the image quality was terrible, it looked like the resolution was 2 times lower and the colors were shifted

The image is recorded as being taken at 1920x1080.

I know, but it was very blurry. Something tells me screnshots cant capture it. Can "85 hz" on the seller webpage be a typo? https://market.yandex.ru/product/6455427/spec?hid=91052&track=tabs

ASUS advertises as having up to 85Hz.

That is not an 85 Hz monitor, it's 60 Hz. ASUS monitors all have maximum refresh rates listed as 75 or 85 Hz on their website, but it can only be reached by lowering the resolution to something like 1024×768. At full resolution, the maximum is 60 Hz.

If the image is being messed up by the monitor, it won't show up in a screenshot, which is recorded by the computer before the image gets to the monitor.

HDMI 1.4 can go up to 1080p 120 Hz without a problem, I've done it before from my 780 Ti.

That's something I always forget about - but then this allowance of a higher than normal refresh rate would classify 85Hz(with this display) as a circumstantial refresh rate.

That would be the new term I am producing with that kind of behavior - CRR.
