Gtx 1060 and gtx 1050 performance

24 minutes ago, Stingray-UK said:

I bought a EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2GB model a month or so after launch here in UK, which was pretty much the most expensive 960 you could buy. It was £169.99 and offered about half the performance of a GTX 970.

Given that the RX 480 is around half the performance of a GTX 1070 and is here in the UK £235 - £250 were not doing very well at this price point as the consumer is now paying £65 ~ £80 more for the relative performance of the high end cards.

There is no way that the GTX 1060 will cost £170 or even £230 or even £250... We will be looking at the £260 to £280 i can bet you! So for the relative performance of the 10 series cards we are now paying over £100 extra to what we did on the 9 series.

Just to add, you could say... Well the GTX 1070 has the performance of a GTX980TI and the GTX 1060 will be GTX 980 level so look at the performance your getting for your money...  to that i say so it bloody should its called progress!!! There is no law to say we can only have 20% increase in performance between generations so with one hand they give with the other they take away... Well from you wallet any way!

Agreed. Also - the 1070 prices have increased to about 450 quid IIRC so it's essentially the same situation as before but the prices are higher. Though, your 960 was still cheaper than at launch - imagine paying 200 quid.

The card probably slightly slower than 980 or on par with ref/stock 980.

but GTX1070 have 31% less cores and on par with 980 Ti and slightly slower when both overclocked.

GTX1060 have 37.5% less core compare to 980.  amidoinitrite?

but Gtx 980 ti (2816)  has less cudas compared to Titan X (3072) and They both have about same performance .

And even if cuda cores are less gtx 1060 will have 1.4 ghz and boost 1.7 so it might get some boost.

1060 leak suggested 1280 CUDA cores. 980 has 2048 CUDA cores. THat is 40% less.

Quick math lesson. (((1280/2048)x100)-100) punch that into a scientific calculator...

1070 has 62% of the 980's CUDA cores. your point?

What? The 1060 has 62.5% of the Cuda cores of the 980, or the 1060 has 37.5% less Cuda cores than the 980. That's not 40%.

I meant 1060 - sorry, typo. And 37.5 is rounded to 40 - that is the way math works.

If the ROPs and TMUs are like the 1070 then performance would be like a 980 BUT that is highly unlikely - expect 970 performance.

yeah is has to be lower than 980 but better than 970, at $250 seems like a good deal

If the 3g 1060 is at 249us it won't compete with the RX 480 very well. The 6g version has to come in at 249us. And this is also going to come down to overclocking. If the 1060 hits 2GHz then the Rx 480 better hit at least 1500MHz to stay in it. This won't be decided for months as we wait for AIB examples to release.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
