How to play music on Windows through bluetooth

My father is looking into buying a new laptop, and he wants to play music to a bluetooth speaker. If he can't do it easily he doesn't want to spend extra for the antenna. I have no idea as I don't use bluetooth on my laptop at all. How would he play music to a bluetooth speaker using Windows Media Player or maybe VLC. Will windows just see it as another speaker device, or will other software be needed?

Check out control panel or settings for Bluetooth menu. Connect to your headphones and enjoy =)
