The Cursed Mic Auto Adjust

My microphone is auto adjusting even though it isn't checked off in Skype. and exclusive control is off. Is there a way for me to check what apps are using the mic so I can diagnose what could be causing the issue?

How do you know the volume is changing?

I assume that you assume that it's being changed through windows. Is that reflected in the microphone properties?

isn't this a very know Skype bug?

 

Don't know of any programs that will let you see which running programs access the mic.

Maybe you could try the following steps, see if it helps.

 

1. Right click the speaker icon on lower right of your computer. (Near date / time)
2. Select "Recording Devices" from the pop-up options.
3. The "Sound" control pop-up window will display on the "Recording" tab.
4. Select the "Communications" tab.
5. For the question: "When Windows detects communications activity:", answer with: "Do nothing".
6. Select "Apply"

7. Test to be sure your microphone no longer self adjusts. 
8. If problem is solved, close all pop-ups, enjoy. If problem persists, try the following:

9. Click the "Recording" tab of the "Sound" pop-up window.
10. Right click the used microphone and select "Properties".
11. Select the "Advanced" tab within the new pop-up window.
12. In the "Exclusive Mode" section, uncheck the following option: "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"
13. Click the "Apply" button.

14. Test to be sure your microphone no longer self adjusts.
15. If problem is solved, close all pop-ups, enjoy. If problem persists, try the following:

16. Repeat steps number 9 through 13 for all other recording devices shown within the "Sound" window's "Recording" tab. 
17. Test to be sure your microphone no longer self adjusts.
18. If problem is solved, close all pop-ups, enjoy. If the problem persists, I am out of ideas.

Skype has a built in Auto Adjust, there is nothing you can do to turn this off, it does this through software

Only option is to move to another voice communication software such as Discord. Only problem with other options is none of them have the near perfect echo cancellation that Skype has speakers.

I already had done most of the settings PingKueh had suggested, and it seems uninstalling an reinstalling Skype (after a reboot) solved to issue.
