Painting tips and ideas

So I got a few cans of spraypaint and I plan to paint my case. Thing is I've never used spraypaint before, and I'm also not sure what I want it to look like. I'm going for a matte black and brass color scheme, but I don't know what design to paint. Not really into the crazy lightning bolts everywhere thing linus did for his case. Maybe something more abstract? Any ideas? Any tips for a first time painter? Thanks!

It helps to mock up the design in photoshop first.
