sony is already using quantum dots for their 4k and high end hdtv's to generate more variations of color.  It's called trilumious

Nope Sony's Triluminous technology uses dots for the backlight only, then that shines through other filters and layers to make a larger color gamut. This is talking about using the dots as the actual pixels for direct image production.

Not complicated at all actually.. it's really simple actually. If you were to get specific about any of those details it'd be uber confusing for most people. Anyhow I don't forsee this happening anytime soon, because honestly, we're approaching color depth and resolution quality that's honestly almost perfect, and all that's left now is to reduce power consumption and increase performance. I think it'd be freakn awesome tho :)
