I kid you not. That nForcer guy PM'ed me multiple times and posted on my profile. One of them talked about how he's a genius because he read dictionaries at the age of 13. I've got to ask OP.  What do you consider ridiculously expensive?  Cause in the world of audio, you can go from 10 to 10,000 fairly fast.  Just to keep it real.  I imagine you can start working your way up with a Fiio D3 Taishan.  It's fairly inexpensive, and I've been pleased with it a good deal more than the onboard chip on my EF2A.  Overall I wouldn't recommend buying a DAC/Amp combo as it can mess up any upgrades you might consider in the future.  And it might be a bit hard to repair if something were to go wrong. Otherwise, with a larger budget... I've heard nice things about Schiit and HRT.  Not sure about anything beyond the low hundreds as I never really looked.
