Microsoft anounces Minecraft: Education Edition

CalciumTech

I keep convincing myself that the last time I played it was fun (Gregtech 3 or 4 all the way back in MC 1.4.6) then I go to try to play it again and see that my CPU isn't powerful enough and the Greg replaced every ore in the game with his own special version.

I played with it on the Test Pack Please Ignore pack.  I got to end game, but never cared to automate it all.  Some of the other guys did.  It is a tedious mod, to say the least.

eh. I reckon This is a really, really good move. Minecraft is lightweight enough to run on -most- school computers. And the younger kids who will actually be using it will Find it TOTALLY AWESOME and will be far more willing to learn. instead of playing minecraft during the lesson Minecraft IS the lesson. but judging from the screenshots it looks like a badly made mod right now.

This needs to stop. Normal Minecraft is toxic enough

If I was in school still, I would be more interested in LEGO's offerings.

I don't really play many games for gameplay anymore honestly. I play most games just for the graphics.

People are looking at this like it is their schooling. I know a lot of younger kids enjoy the game quite a bit. My freaking niece loves it. Sure we may not but this isn't aimed at those who have degrees or finishing them. Even in college I prefer when the professor does something out of the box, makes it more memorable and I tend to remember things better. Not saying I'd want to use minecraft in my accounting class but to outright dismiss it is quite silly.

What would it actually be used for?

What would students do other than play minecraft!?

Read through your post and have no clue, why this is great.

Hate to break it to you. But minecraft attracts autistic people because of the ambiguity and simplicity of the game.

It does not cause it. People who have autism tend to play minecraft.

I have a story to tell ya about that. I used to have a neighbor who has autistic children and one of them is super into Minecraft. I used to play it a lot, but I don't anymore since my interests have taken me elsewhere.
