Need to upgrade my Mobo; will I have to get a new OS product key as well?

I currently am running Windows 7 on my PC but its time to upgrade; Switch to Intel from AMD. Question is, will my current copy be able to go on a new motherboard/CPU? I hear a lot of people saying that the product keys are tied to mobos but it sounds like they are referring more to Windows 10.

Thanks for any help!

Win 10 had some issues whit its keys being bound to mobos but I never heard something like that about Win7.

if the windows version is oem, them its tied to the first motherboard it was installed on, if it's a builder version, then you are free to upgrade.

I can't remember if mine is OEM or not. But if it is am i screwed and just have to buy a new copy? Or can product keys be transferred? Disable from one device and reactivate on another?

Disabling product keys are not really an option if you are just upgrading... but microsoft will disable them if you had to return defective components or something of that nature. I've had that happen to me and you have to go through microsoft support. It's kinda sketchy but you can do it if you go through microsoft.
