8GB vs 12GB

Go to solution Solved by rtpb5642,

It's an online builder and the exchange rates are, as I said, retarded ( ˘︹˘ )

so buy it with 8GB and go buy 4g of the same RAM later on.

Hey There!

This is an age old question (i know), but I'm asking it again. Is 12GB overkill?

I've heard that some motherboard that don't support Tri Channel just turn the 12Gb down to single channel. Will I notice a big different In Real Life? (i don't give a dam about benchmarks). I multi task and edit a lot. What would suit me more? I notice ATM with my current computer (well, laptop.) that even now (about 12 chrome tabs open, skype and two windows explorers open) and my editor open, I'm using 52% of my memory.

EXTRA: (PLEASE READ!!!)

If I take the 8 GB, I can get a 970 with an intel 4790K.

If I take the 12GB, I can get the 970 with an intel 4790

If you play Geometry Dash, would you take the time to rate this demon? 14986973 ;3;

What is it that you want to do with your PC? If it's gaming, then you don't really need 12gb. Just get 8 + an i5 and a better GPU, such as the r9 390.

if you edit a lot/ render then yes

if not then no

I edit and render a lot (nearly on a daily basis) but I also do quite a bit of gaming (GTA V for example).

Would I notice an irl difference from tri channel to single channel? (since that's what the mb will do)

Not in speed the only difference would be capacity, if u render videos then u will want it.

  1. There's no Tri-Channel with Haswell. It's either Dual or Single. In your case, Single, as you'd be using 3 sticks of RAM.
  2. I'd expect very minor loss in performance. If you actually would use all that RAM, the loss caused by lack of RAM is just orders of magnitude bigger than the loss of dual channel.

Why not just save up for another paycheck and get 16GB? That's what I'd do. Kits of RAM are also better, as they're tested to work perfectly together where as mix matched kits are not.

Also, don't bump your posts. Especially after a few minutes. It's unnecessary and possibly against ToS.
