Project - Building Gaming Computer

SevantynauG

So, here we go guys.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically the target that I would like to meet in building the Gaming Computer is :

1. Able to support high speed USB device at 4.6 G bits/s
2. Fast cold boot up time ( 10 sec or less )
3. Able to play Crysis 3 with triple screen on high setting. ( the monitor would likely to be 27 inch )
4. Ability to read/write high capacity 50GB optical media.
5. Ability to support Digital Versatile Disk ( DVD ) media.
6. Support for common wireless technology : Bluetooth, WiFi
7. Having different Harddisk to prevent lost of game data in the event of harddisk failure.
8. Cooling system to prevent the computer from over-heated. ( I usually play games for 5 hours or more.
9. Gaming keyboard and mouse that are use by competitive gamer.
10. Eye catching CPU tower casing.
11. Desirable PC accessories and hardware configuration recommended for a competitive gamer.

Furthermore, the budget for this gaming computer will be $2700.

Well, the cfx might be not the best choice (because of microstuttering probs with amd), so you might wait a few days and see if amd gets some new gpus on the market or get a 780/770 or two.

Edit: and oh yeah, you might aswell look out for asus' new slim bezel monitors so you dont have like 3-4cm in the way.

You may want to change the dual 7970 to dual 680, they yeld the same performance with less stuttering. Until an official driver is released.

I'd go for two 680's / 770's. The 680's will drink less power than both the 7970's and the 770's for similar performance.

Also, if you want an AIO Water cooling system. Get a Swiftech H220. It performs much better than a H100i and has a copper radiator vs. the H100i's Aluminium rad.

Also, you may as well get Haswell for the new Z87 Motherboard and socket features. You'll get more native USB 3.0 which is nice.

That case is ugly ( just my opinion. don't know what to recommend. Maybe this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/fractal-design-case-fdcadefxlr2bl )

You should maybe invest more to the keyboard. Trust me. I own sidewinder x4.  :D

And you maybe want the newer(and better) version of the deathadder mouse: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/razer-mouse-rz0100840100r3u1

I'd go for 770's. They are more powerful than the 680 that everyone else is saying. And cheaper. :)

I'd also go for Haswell. An i5 4670K would be better. You'd get more USB 3.0 aswell.

It'd be a struggle to run 2 770's on a rosewill / unbranded 750W Power Supply. They drink more power than 680's.

That's another thing. I'd go for a more reputable brand than Rosewill for PSU's. Here are some to consider:

1. Seasonic - one of the most reliable names in the power supply business, a little more expensive.

2. XFX - uses Seasonic OEM re-branded power supplies, a little cheaper than Seasonic.

3. Corsair - uses mostly Seasonic OEM re-brands. Are very high quality power supplies.

Oh, fair enough. I was going off reviews of some of their other / older models. Seems they're making a name for themselves, I'll amend my original statement:

If one wants to run 770's in SLI, to get the most out of ones PSU in terms of Efficiency and longevity, the less load on it the better. If one can afford an 850W PSU, then I'd recommend one should do that. I'm thinking of doing 770's in SLI for my Summer build and chose an AX860, of course that's the extreme high end.

@FloRofl yea i heard about that problem too, but they just simply gave the best performance before 7xx series came out. But, well, i think im gonna get a 770. As for the monitor i will consider on getting one, but i was told to get a 24" inch monitor.

You may want to change the dual 7970 to dual 680, they yeld the same performance with less stuttering. Until an official driver is released.

@Morfy Alright. Since 770 is cheaper and gave better performance i'll go for 770. Thanks for information.

I'd go for two 680's / 770's. The 680's will drink less power than both the 7970's and the 770's for similar performance.

@TheDigitalRealm Alright. I will get two 770. As i also heard that 7970's might be extremely hot when you play it for like 5-6 hours.

Also, you may as well get Haswell for the new Z87 Motherboard and socket features. You'll get more native USB 3.0 which is nice.

Well, everybody is suggesting me to change the CPU and i also heard that 3570k and 4670k have almost the same performance but 4670k is more expensive.

On the other hand, maybe you can tell me more about Haswell 4670k? I'll very thankful if you can share your knowledge about this CPU to me. :D

That case is ugly ( just my opinion. don't know what to recommend. Maybe this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/fractal-design-case-fdcadefxlr2bl )

@andsu Well, maybe different people has different taste. :P

Personally i found this case looks good. hehe. So yea.

Alright, i didnt notice that there's a new deathadder product. Thanks for letting me know. I'll look for more information about the product and make my decision. :)

It'd be a struggle to run 2 770's on a rosewill / unbranded 750W Power Supply. They drink more power than 680's.

@TheDigitalRealm I heard about it too. So, im getting a 850w power supply which is a product from Corsair and this product looks pretty good in its performance.

Im about to get a 770 aswell and i take the 4gb for my 1080p. Its worth the price!

Overclocking the mem frequency would help slightly to compensate for lack of memory, still not going to perform as well as a 4GB card.

I would say, if the 4GB gtx 770's prove too expensive, take a look at the 4GB gtx 680's and compare prices, maybe look around for people selling current cards if you don't mind second hand video cards. (I personally wouldn't recommend this).

Erm, 2 770's proved to be performing well in high setting + 3 monitor set up. therefore i'll go for 2 770's as my graphic card for my gaming computer at the moment and the price also matched well for my budget. so yea, but still, thank you for giving me this suggestion, maybe in the future i will consider on getting it.

But well, I think i created this thread in the wrong place. so yea, i'll close this thread.

2gb of vram will be fine, last gen 600 series cards all had 2gb except for special cards and they worked fine at high resolution. Looks like it will be a promising build :).
