1440p vs 120hz 1080p

SlaughterSmurf

so, 1440p monitors are around $500, and so are 1080p 144hz. I don't have experience with anything above 108p 60hz and I am wondering some opinions on which would improve the experience more. I have a single GTX 780 ti. Which would you get if you were in my position?

If I were in your position, 1440P would be on my wishlist. A 780 Ti can handle it, and 1080p 144Hz monitors generally have pretty meh TN panels.

108p? Sounds dreadful.

I've seen 1440p and can't really see the difference to be honest. I would go to a store to see if you think 1440p is worth it.

EDIT: guy with sexy avatar above has a much better answer now that I think if it.

It depends. If you play very competitively then I would go 144hz. If not a 1440p display would be nice!

Really it would depend on the games you play and what you do on your computer. If you play a lot of fps or moba games a 144hz monitor would be good for reaction time; while a 1440p screen would be better for trying to get some extra immersion(better colors and nicer detail) out of a game or just using your pc for more basic stuff like web surfing and reading(crisper text, but smaller)

I personally use a 1440p monitor and enjoy it thoroughly.

1440p is worth it for the screen size (screens can be lager, 27" or maybe a lil more, without looking to stretched) and work space for non gaming. I'd recommend 4k though if you have the money and work space is a big concern so you can just game at 1080p if you want, since 4k is 4x 1080p, and scales perfectly (looks native at 1080p)

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Yeah but the main thing I want it for is gaming and there really isn't any point in spending $800 on a monitor for the same quality, resolution, refresh rate and all of that in games...

1440p because of their naturally higher quality panels.

Thought it was coming to market in North America for $649?

There's absolutely no point in spending over $250 for a tn panel imo. If you're playing cs at a "VERY" high level, buy it. Personally, I don't think it's worth it if you're into bf4/cod.

I still have my 2233rz from my cs days. It's been collecting dust for 4 years now.

I guess it comes down to what you consider worth it.

If you are willing to take the risk, get a korean monitor. I have the Qnix 2710 and my monitor overclocks to 120hz but all monitors are assured to run at 96hz. I run mine at 96hz all the time.

I don't recommend buying this unless you truly have to have the best of both worlds.

As for 1440 vs 120hz, 1440p no questions asked.

Nope not willing to risk it I have the worst luck with regards to failure rates on my stuff.
