Is 1.4volts to much for Ivy bridge?

Im currently running my 3570K @ 4.4Ghz at about 1.25-1.3v on my core and i want to push closer to 5Ghz and from this I should be able to push the CPU to 1.4 or even 1.45v without any problems on air. I'm using a Hyper 212 that i have had for a few years now and it keeps my CPU under 70c even at full load in Prime95 so temperatures are not a problem and even if they get high i can change my fan speed from less than 1krpm to something like 3K.

I wouldn't, I run my 3570K at 1.1v @4.2Ghz for safekeeping, I'm not saying you couldn't but it depends on how long you want it to run for before you're battling degredation.

1.4v isn't dangerously high, but it's gonna reduce the life of the CPU and I think it's about the roof of what's safe on air.

If you can cool it, i don't see why not.  It will shave some life off probably, but not much I'd imagine.

IMO the more voltage you push the cooler you should try to keep it.

To add to this:  I read an article on toms hardware but can't seem to find it..

It talked about how silicone degradation actually occurs, with electrons flowing through it, and occasionally one loses it's course or something like that, more voltage makes them lose course easier, same with more heat.

(once a certain amount lose their course, it can result in failure) something like that.

(these weren't the exact words but you get my point)

Dam I wish I could find that article.

I'd do it to get a screengrab, save that profile, and give myself a pat on the back for winning the silicon lottery, but I wouldn't run it on that profile everyday.

The lower the voltage, the longer your CPU will last.

i'll last a year or 2. whats the point in having a slow cpu that last 10 years when most people upgrade every 2 or 3 years.
