Laptop for University Student

johno

Hey,

I'm currently studying structural engineering and I've looked through other threads with laptop recommendations. I need a laptop to that's able to operate AutoCAD with a good mic and camera for calls as we will be studying remotley I also want it for watching Netflix and general use. I see the Asus Rog Zephrus G14 is recommended alot and I was considering this option. However while looking around I came across this ASUS TUF Blue A15 15.6" Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7, GTX 1660 Ti, 512 GB SSD (link below). It seems to have similar/better specs for a cheaper price. I might be missing something as to why its cheaper also I'm open to other recommendations my budget is around €1100 and I'm based in Ireland. I'd also considering something cheaper if the performance drop off isn't too severe

Thanks

Johno

At that price, get a used ThinkPad P-series with a quadro graphics card. You won't be happy with CAD stuff on a gaming laptop (poor performance rendering wire frames for example). The camera and mic on ThinkPad is not that great, better to use your phone for that or a logitech webcam.
