Running memory at recommended speeds.

So my memory is rated at 3200, running at 1333, however its duel mode so i guess its running at 2666 then?

When i tried to set it to 3200 or even 3000 in the bios it became rapidly unstable and would blue screen while not running anything other than chrome, temps were fine and im not sure where i went wrong.

 

Setting the xmp profile sets it at the unstable speed of 3200, and auto makes it crawl at 2133.

 

Do i need to increase the voltage also? and why would i need to "overclock" the recommended speed?

Doubled from 1333 to 2666 because it's DDR memory, not because of dual channel (tho dual channel theoretically doubles speed as well)

 

On what hardware?

 

Btw while 3200MHz isnt an overclock for the memory, it is for the CPU and board.

This is enough, I have seen 2700x fail to go over 3000 so this isnt out of my expectation

Never actually looked into it, running 1.10 so I bet first released bios, do I need to download it and flash to update or can I install it like a video card driver?

you have to flash it through the BIOS. I have heard of tools that let you install from the OS but I prefer not using them as it increases the chance of a failed BIOS flash (because Windows itself is a source of instability).

Could it be perhaps that if 1333 means 2666 then 3000 would mean 6000 and 3200 would mean 6400?  What happens when you trey to set it for 1600 which is half of 3200?  2133 doubled is 4266 which would be over the infinity fabric double point of 3733, so crawling would be reasonable.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

No, you just set it to 3200 MT/s in the BIOS, many monitoring applications will read it as 1600Mhz, which are both correct.

not a option, its written as the combined total, just windows 10 task manager shows it split and most programs can as well

is it normal to have to flash multiple bios? the x470 tachi updates seem a bit strange

there could be a step up BIOS that you need to get to first before going to even newer BIOS, this isn't a common thing but so does supporting 3 (soon to be 4) generations of CPUs (with different BIOSes tho) on the same board

There was some Jay video about memory voltage, is 1.4 really high? That's what it's at base. Would that be causing issues with higher speed?

 

Also it appears to be stable for now running at the xmp speed now, but time will tell due to it not failing immediately last time
