Random CPU usage spikes on all browsers

I noticed today that both firefox and chrome use a lot of CPU power when i start them and when i open new tabs. I wouldnt worry about it, but they both jump to around 70-80% cpu usage at these times. Additionally with chrome, when i open it up, all the icons on my desktop and taskbar will flicker for a second, almost like Windows Explorer did a really fast restart. Have no idea what is causing this, but its kinda annoying when i am playing a game or am doing something on my main monitor and try to use chrome on my second monitor.
