Would a 2080 Super with an i9 9900K Be overkill?

Raviable

I'll spare you the details and just put a picture of my PCPartPicker List:

Would this Genuinely be Overkill for a gaming computer running stuff at possibly 144Hz in the Future? I'm not exactly aiming Top of the line high but I'm aiming comfortably close to it for my needs

CPU is not overkill IMO, it will help keep stutters to a minimum.  (from experience upgrading from an 8600K to a 9900K).

You are right that you need a top-end air cooler though.  I struggle with an NH-D15S I think because I'm using an ITX case with crap air intake, with a good case it should cope.

I've heard AIO's Have pumps that can fail, I really don't want to go through with all of that. What do you mean by the Dh15 Option? Don't see it on PCPartPicker

I assume they mean Noctua NH-D15.

full name: NH-D15, the big Noctua cooler. Dark Rock Pro4 is just as good with better colour scheme imo

i love my i9 its a good choice it better for gaming than anyother cpu out right now better even if its by a little.

then that qualifies as overkill. Not like he has a 2080Ti

I really want a Decent almost top-of-the-line Experience, I actually don't really care that much about whether the CPU's Overkill, I'm only wondering what's really wrong with my parts list

Keep in mind, I sort of want this build to last a long time once I get it. My Current Acer Nitro 5 (The 2018 Version, not 2019) doesn't really feel comfortable to play with to me due to stutters and low framerates in some games

Everybody is jumping to conclusions unless i missed something...

Questions that need answers relating to the "my needs" :) :

- what "stuff"? You say games but minesweeper or bf5?

- what future? If not going 144hz within a year or so better wait i guess and see whats available then (depending on what you have now)

- 144hz what? 1080, 1440p or 4k? (Today most assume 1080 but higher is becomming more possible and "affordable"; let alone in the "future", maybe you stumble into a 1440p 240hz bargain once you are ready)

In general: If you can afford it, go for it. What is overkill today is midrange in 2-4 years, so unless you rebuild every few years anyway there no harm (except to your wallet) in having overkill today.

I'm going for like 1080P 144Hz gaming, mainly in the realm of Games like Minecraft, CSGO, VR Games like Beat Saber and Pavlov, That would be easily something high up in the realms of gaming and I want to run those games at great settings (Minecraft being with shaders and all that).

You could EASILY do that with a 3700x (probably even a 3600 would have no issues) and 5700XT. Buying a 9900k and 2080S for Minecraft and CSGO at 1080p is a giant waste of money.

As well, don't buy a reference card. For instance I got my ROG Strix 2080 Super for $950, where as that's $150 more for a worse card.

Gaming Build:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3800x   |  GPU: Asus ROG STRIX 2080 SUPER Advanced (2115Mhz Core | 9251Mhz Memory) |  Motherboard: Asus X570 TUF GAMING-PLUS  |  RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 3600MHz 16GB  |  PSU: Corsair RM850x  |  Storage: 1TB ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro, 250GB Samsung 840 Evo, 500GB Samsung 840 Evo  |  Cooler: Corsair H115i Pro XT  |  Case: Lian Li PC-O11

Peripherals:

Monitor: LG 34GK950F  |  Sound: Sennheiser HD 598  |  Mic: Blue Yeti  |  Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Platinum  |  Mouse: Logitech G502

Laptop:

Asus ROG Zephryus G15

Ryzen 7 4800HS, GTX1660Ti, 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz, 512GB nVME, 144hz

NAS:

QNAP TS-451

6TB Ironwolf Pro

This is coming from a person who's used a 1050Ti in a laptop that's just not performing well anymore, so sorry If I'm too intense on this build so far

Which is about at fast as a GTX 670.

Seriously, you don't need any of this.

Ryzen 1600, B350 board & a RX 5600XT, you will get 144FPS in those games forever.

as I said, I'm sorry If I haven't clarified much. I haven't really taken the time to do research on what is the best for me, I'm just trying to get settings that seem optimal for me, How about 1440P Gaming on an RTX 2070 Super?

Yeah at 1080P 144FPS? those games will fly on what i mentioned.

For VR perhaps stepping up to a 5700XT will have you.
