Tried to update bios and no post

Just tried to update my bios though the ez flash on my mobo, and now the color on the mobo is orange and nothing comes up on the moniter. Fans spin.

Start with clearing cmos. 
Is you monitor connected to gpu or motherboard??

Already tried to clear cmos and its the same as before. It is connected to my gpu.

Try booting with one ram stick first.

which graphics card are you running? Some older gpus don't post if you aren't running compatibility mode and newer bios iterations switched that off by default

 

edit: for example, my 750 ti wouldn't post until I managed to swap the motherboard onto compatibility mode with a newer gpu

1060 6gb. I tried with one ram stick snd its the same thing.

If you feel the bios flashed bricked the board and all else fails, Put the Disk in the DVD reader that came with your ROG board. It will post from the disk (unplug the HDD/SDDs) and you want to select bios recovery. This will put the stock bios back onto the board.

I only have the disc drive plugged in and it isnt booting to it.

on an unrelated note, if you aren't planning to use a 3rd gen ryzen processor I would avoid updating to the bios updates made for their support. There are some lost support/features on some boards due to smaller bios module sizes on the older boards

Well i wanted to update because when i tried to overclock my ram with the docp my system was posting in safe mode

Does the board have the flash back button? That is the last resort before RMA the motherboard.

It does not feature the FlashBack and does not have the button.

The only advice I have left is to assemble it back to normal.

turn off PSU. unplug battery and jump CMOS 10 seconds. 

Leave the battery out for 10 minutes.

Put the battery back in, turn the switch on and hope for a post.

Damn, I'm sorry that I recommended the BIOS update. Generally they're safe and Ryzen owners tend to update them more often than others.

 

I've updated the bios several times on two Ryzen boards without issues.

I've bricked a couple of boards in the past. One in particular was Asus AM3, it was a very basic motherboard and I was overclocking it trying different bios's hoping for higher cpu clocks, that sort of thing. Completely bricked. Would start up, fan spinning no other actions. I got lucky with the bios recovery on the disk and saved the board. 

When you RMA the board, and whomever contacts you, be sure to ask them to install the latest bios and test the board.

Take a picture of the board sticker so you know if they send you a new board or "repaired" your old one.

I have at least 3 dead boards here. None post, no bios flashing, new bios chips..... nothing. totally dead.

Well the whole reason i wanted to update the bios in the first place was because i have 3200 mhz ram but it was only running at 2100. When i tried to do docp my computer would start up in safe mode. Do you think it could be because i only have a 450w psu?

No sir, the Ryzen memory controller is quite picky. 

You're not alone with the overclock memory issue department. Welcome to LTT lol. 

Lots with the same issues.

 

The first issue is low budget low quality memory. We don't need to get into specifics really, but there are some rules of thumb to running a Ryzen processor.

One, expect the unexpected lol. I kinda mean that. Really fun and interesting setup AMD has come out with.

 

One of the things Ryzen like is memory training. The memory controller (IMC) and the RAM must learn to like each other. At certain speeds, the Cpu/Ram divider changes and cause a slow post in some cases. The slow post is part of the training process. Since I only have working knowledge of Asus boards, this may only apply here, but regardless, the IMC gets trained. Means setting DOCP and starting at a lower frequency. Then working your way up to DOCP speed manually. What this does is sets the sub timing sets to DOCP at a lower speed and raising the frequency helps train the memory controller to run certain frequency with certain timings.

 

So for an example. 

My 3600mhz G.Skill B-Die are rated 16-16-16 1.35v. I've never once, not one time been able to clear cmos and post XMP right off the bat. However..... I can run them over 1900mhz effective (3800mhz). Here's the clincher. I'm not running a 3000 series chip either. The memory controller on my 2700x is not as nice. I really have to give it some attention and memory training. I start XMP at 3200mhz. Then I post 4200mhz, 4266, 4300 and so forth. When I go past the DOCP profile spec, I raise the memory voltage to a personal defined amount. 

 

Memory overclocking Ryzen chips is not cut and dry for 90% of the people out there. Not until you get the hang of it. Then..... with good memory sticks, sky's the limit.

Just got the rma done. Im probably gonna ship it out tommorow. It says that i have to put the original cpu covering on it but do you think they will care?
