Upgrading motherboard, don't know what to get

I want to upgrade my CPU to an i5 9400f because of its value for performance. The only problem with this is my current motherboard doesn't have the right socket, so I am going to get a new motherboard as well. I don't know  what motherboard to upgrade to, because I know very little about motherboards, so I need some help. I need 4 ram slots, and I am willing to spend about $100, but the lower the better. My current Mobo is the ASRock Fatal1ty z97 killer. Thanks in advance!

Nice try Intel marketing division.

On a serious note, get R5 2600(X) based build with smth like ASRock B450 Pro4.

Keep in mind also that you'll likely will need to buy a new RAM too since you most likely have DDR3 kit now and modern CPUs support DDR4 only.

You may actually be better off staying on the platform you already have. You already have a Z97 board so maybe look into getting a used i7 4770K or i7 4790K from Ebay, it's your choice though. Just think about it.

Honestly you'd save money buying a used 4790k and end up with similar performance. You'd have to get new RAM as well z97 was the last to be DDR3, you'd have to upgrade to DDR4 ram as well with the 9400f

If you have to upgrade to DDR4 your better of choosing AMD anyway. Better upgrade path for now and cheaper. Performance is same-ish.

Then ofcourse it would be a lot cheaper sticking with Intel.

Any B360 really, look for enough SATA and USB ports and presence of VRM heatsink but that's just a bonus for the CPU this low-level and locked. H310 might do too but there's a chance you'll need to update UEFI on it before it would work with i5 9400F.
