First Gaming PC, potentially for vr

Here is my build:

First of all, will it even work? Will I have any problems?

I initially planned on adding MSI B450 Gaming Plus instead, but I read that there are some problems with updating the BIOS without an older CPU, so I thought that it is safer to change it to x570 instead. Is it a real problem? Should I keep it as it is, or is it fine to buy b450?

Also, I think about buying Valve Index sometime later, probably when HL: Alyx will come out. Do you think this build is enough to play it?

Thanks

Consider a cheaper motherboard like the ASRock B450M/AC, or an MSI Max motherboard, as they'll be more economical and be updated for third gen out of the box

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Thanks for your reply,

I could not find these motherboards in my city, but I found some potential alternatives. ASRock B450 Steel legend and MSI B450 A-PRO MAX, are they okay?

They are microATX, so I have a question, what are the differences with ATX (and potential problems for my build), besides the size? I can only see that there are 2 DDR4 slots in the MSI motherboard.

Also, thanks for suggesting to change the PSU, I actually thought that this one is pretty decent.

I looked some PSUs from this list: https://www.pcgamer.com/best-power-supply-unit-for-pc-gaming-our-top-psu-for-pc/

I could find "Corsair RM650x 80 PLUS Gold" and "Cooler Master MasterWatt 650". I like that the latter one is fanlesss under 15% load, but probably it is louder than the Corsair on high load? Are these PSUs okay, or should I look for even more expensive ones?

Also, these PSUs are designed for ATX builds(from what I found). Does it mean it is not compatible with motherboards that I mentioned above? Or is it written only for size description?

Thanks

Does the steel legend box say "Ryzen 3000 ready" or something on it? If not, can the shop selling it update the BIOS for you? If not, get the A-Pro Max. If you buy 16GB of ram, the 2 dimm slots instead of 4 won't matter, it's extremely unlikely you'll need 32GB of ram anytime soon for gaming.

The RMX is a really good PSU, you should pick that one up. Despite the other one being fanless, Corsair PSUs are extremely quiet. Although, if you find a 550 watt model and want to save some money, it's a pretty solid pick, as 550 watts can power almost any gaming rig out there.

Alternatives for a high end PC include the Corsair TXM, Bitfenix formula gold, and whisper M.

I had a bit of a PC-size racism before you suggested me to buy mATX boards, but now I am a bit more open to them. I rethought my build after that:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Zhanadil/saved/xNvTCJ

"ASRock B450M Steel Legend" apparently is not 3000 ready, so I am thinking between A-Pro Max and a bit cheaper "MSI B450M Mortar Titanium", which has BIOS Flash feature.

Obviously, I shifted to mATX build and changed the case to NZXT H400.

Because of that I utilized M.2 to save some space, so I moved to it, instead of a regular SATA SSD.

Some research lead me to an opinion that AMD stock coolers are very loud, so I added BeQuiet Dark Rock 4 to my list. Is the difference noticeable, or should I keep the stock cooler?

I found RM550X in one of my local stores, but it is non-2018 version, afaik the only difference is in size. Do you know if there is anything else I should know before buying it?

Also, I didn't notice before, but motherboards that I am looking for don't support 3600mhz RAM, so I switched to Corsair Vengeance 3200. I don't really understand what I should look for to know if it is compatible with my build. Could you help me with that?

Besides that, I heard that RAM speed is 2166 by default, so I have to OC it to get to 3200mhz. Do I have to tweak my build a bit, so that I don't have any problems with heating or power consumption or anything else if I OC it?

Is there anything else I could have missed? Maybe this whole build is garbage from the beginning, or there are some minor things I should consider, any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The BIOS flash feature is a bit of a pain if you can avoid it, but the mortar is a really solid board so if the extra work is worth it to you then it's a really solid pick.

The 970 evo is really overpriced for a gaming PC, consider a Sabrent Rocket, Intel 660p, or Adata XPG

the dark rock 4 is a really, really good cooler, not just in comparison to the stock AMD cooler.

the Wraith stealth isn't terribly loud but if you can afford the dark rock then it's great

the old RMX is still a very solid unit.

The difference between 3200 and 3600 is not so big, saving money with the cheaper ram isn't a bad idea.

no, ram temperature is really never a factor these days.

I've asked the store and they said they will update the BIOS for me, so that's no problem anymore. Do you still think I should go with Mortar in this case?

Watched a couple of videos. I think you are right, probably will go with Intel 660p.

It appears Vengeance is out of stock -__- Probably will go with Trident Z 3200Mhz in that case, but it is not low profile, so that brings me to my next question. I don't think it will matter a lot, since I will use only second and fourth RAM slots and Be quiet's mobo compatibility checker says it is half compatible(yellow checkmark, I think it means first RAM is covered), but still. Do you think Mortar + Trident Z + Dark Rock 4 combo is compatible?

BTW, how do you think this whole build does in VR?

Thanks

I wouldn't really recommend a DRP4, coz stock AMD cooler is just fine. But if you have extra cash to spare, then you can definitely go for it.

I'll recommend something like this instead...

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($189.99 @ Walmart)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler  ($88.99 @ SuperBiiz) Stock cooler would do just fine
Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($99.99 @ B&H) Supports Ryzen 3000 series CPUs out of the box
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory  ($69.99 @ Newegg) Pretty affordable 3600mhz cl16 kit
Storage: HP EX920 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  ($108.99 @ Amazon) SSD with 1gb DRAM cache
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($79.99 @ Newegg) 3TB storage for the same price
Video Card: XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB THICC II Ultra Video Card  ($389.99 @ Newegg) Slight step up over the card that you have selected, that too for the same price
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case  ($98.98 @ Newegg) Hands down the best case under $100.
Power Supply: BitFenix Formula Gold 750 W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply  ($85.90 @ Amazon) Coz apparently the 750w unit was cheaper than both 550w and 650w units.
Total: $1212.81
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
