I am presently wondering if it would still work in online, or if it would refuse connection

Even if you could get it working, DON'T. Even though the mod doesn't affect gameplay it's still against the rules and your account could be banned.

Absolutely don't do it. Rockstar is very trigger happy and may ban you even if you don't use mods, so absolutely don't even try to do it. You will just get instabanned.
