Monitor loses signal very rarely

mortis
Go to solution Solved by paddy-stone,

Sounds like a bad cable to me, especially if you still had audio... try another cable.

I've had my new PC for 2 months now, and it seems to have developed a weirdly infrequent problem. My monitor has twice lost signal from the computer. The times were a month apart, so it isn't a frequent problem. Both times it happened right as i started a game. The first time the image came back on it's own after a few minutes, while the second time the problem was fixed by unplugging the displayport cable from the computer and re-attaching it. Before unplugging it i ensured it was in properly, so it isn't that. I didn't wait as long the second time, so it might have come back on its own that time as well. The problem seems to only affect image, as the sounds still kept playing and the computer reacted to inputs from the keyboard. After the image came back, there wasn't any artifacting or other problems. The lights on the gpu were still on when there was no image.

My specs:

OS: Windows 10 64bit

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x

GPU: Vega 64 Strix

MOBO: b450 aorus pro

Ram: 16GB (2x8) HyperX predator

SSD: 1TB wd blue

PSU: Bitfenix Whisper M 750W

That might very well be the case. Previously Radeon settings have complained about being unable to sync resolution or something whenever the display was turned off to save power. Changed to a HDMI cable and that's stopped. Thanks for the help.
