New to Home Networking and need a switch recommendation

Skipple

Hi guys! I bought my house last year and I am just getting into setting up my own network and need a switch recommendation.

Requirements:

  • 20+ ports w/ at least 6 POE
  • Managed.
  • Gigabit+ speed uplink and on all ports.

Thanks so much in advance!

What do you mean by Gigabit+?

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

1000Mbit+

But do you mean you need at LEAST Gigabit or you need more than a Gigabit?

Also do you know what version of PoE you need, such as how many watts per port?

Either way, its not likely to be cheap.

At least gigabit. Hence Gigabit+

802.3af is fine.

If you don't care about 10Gbit then:

If you want a couple 10Gbit ports then:

That's quite the penny. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm looking at this Juniper EX3200-48T cheep on eBay. Strong feelings one way or the other?

Are you familiar with the command line on Juniper switches?

No, but I love to learn. My work is also biased on Juniper so it wouldn't be a bad thing for me.

If you're willing to learn the CLI syntax then I say go for it. Just one thing to be aware of is they are generally much louder than something like a Ubiquiti switch but if you aren't putting it anywhere close to people then it's nothing to worry about. I think they can rev up to about 55-60dBa worst case.

Okay, thanks for the warning. I am going to be putting it in a room in my basement so I can sound proof it if need be.

Then I say go for it :)

You will need a console cable as well but those are like $5 or so and then a console to USB adapter cable too is helpful.
