AMD HEDT vs Intel HEDT

Like the title says High End Desktop.  Ive been using quad channel since 2012 so I'm not going to downgrade to a dual channel non HEDT setup.  Also with Intel I would choose 9980XE and AMD Zen 2 ThreadRipper 3990x 32 core 64 threads.

Simple question so I know what Ill do in July,  Which one as more powerful period.  Meaning I can have 150 tracks and sh*Tload of VSTi's and plugins and what not.  So I guess I might need a audiophile + guru to answer this.  I ask this question and make this thread because when I look at benchmarks it says the 9980XE is faster then 32c threadripper....... not the zen 2 the zen 1 one hehe.  So ya which CPU comes out on top for my needs.  Also I could care less either way if theres a 10fps difference,, like 10 more if you buy Intel etc,, I don't care about that..... Anyhow thanks bunch guys, looking for some input as July the moment of truth comes out.

Currently? Intel, no doubt, only because MS still hasn't fixed the bug under WIndows that is kneecapping AMD's HEDT performance.

When this is fixed, or if you don't run Windows? Threadripper all the way.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Wall Of Fame (Informative people/People I like): @Glenwing @DrMacintosh @Schnoz @TempestCatto @LogicalDrm @Dan Castellaneta

Well... the 7nm Threadripper has been removed from AMD's roadmap.

So it either comes out in 2020, or not at all, or they plan on a surprise.

I personally think that it will come out, but delayed.

But wait for this, for more info:

Your current rig is running quad channel DDR3 correct? If you upgrade to DDR4, you have a larger memory bus as well as very high frequencies available. You would be able to improve bandwidth even on dual channel, and there are nice workstation boards available for Ryzen, the debuted X570 boards look pretty serious.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

The memory bus is not larger with DDR4, it's exactly the same 64 bits times the number of channels (128-bit with dual channel, 256-bit with quad channel).

In that case the speed and latency advantages are the only notable improvements, but they are very notable.
