Stuttering with 9590 and 970 sli.

Smiles4Miles

So I got a PC from my step dad for my birthday. It was stuttering from the start in basically every game I play. PUBG has it worst unfortunatly. It stutters every 3-5 seconds for half a second. When it isnt stuttering and in that little time frame i get about 45 fps even on very low. Fortnite the same thing happens. But not as often. I havent checked task manager to see cpu and gpu usage for these games, but the game i play every single day has it kind of bad. Sometimes it stutters up to 2 seconds in some races, sometimes micro stutters where i notice them but they only happen for 0.1 seconds im guessing. And i did check task manager for this one. The cpu was at its lowest usage was 41% and max was 71%. Weird thing is that it was always at a solid 4.65 ghz but it is turboed to 5 ghz. The mobo i have is a gigabyte GA-990FX-Gaming. Not sure psu wattage because im not allowed to open the case, and not sure the gpu. Just know they are 970's in sli. I know the mobo because of an app called speccy. Any help?

Are you using DX12?, as SLI is dead with that

Also PUBG is un-optimized, your FPS is high at 60 in that game

Disable SLI. PUBG can't use that at all and it usually makes the performance worse.

Are your other games fine, if so, just turn down PUBG settings and turn off SLI for PUBG

SLI is just like that. Combined with the weak CPU it's no wonder that you have stuttering issues.

Just disable SLI. Very few games support it anymore.

Ram will show at half speed since it's dual channel. So it's 1333Mhz ddr3

Make sure drivers are up to date. That can always be an issue.

Certain games support it better then others. You really have to look at the developers notes for a game to see if it's well supported in SLI.

Ok. I saw while looking online a few days ago that a mobo can cause a problem? Like if it cant supply enough wattage? Because on a post i read it said that a mobo can only support upto said wattage? And i guess it would be helpful if i knew what power supply i have?

If that's the issue, you should be able to resolve it by disabling your second GPU in Device manager or BIOS (since you're not able to physically remove it from the case.)

See if that helps. If not, you may want to set clock speeds back to stock. Sometimes CPU overclocks can screw with games for no particular reason.

You can turn it on and off pretty easily. Right click desktop, Nvidia control panel, Set SLI configuration, Then select "Do not use SLI technology" when running a game that doesn't need it.

I know thats a way to turn off sli. Is there an actual preformance drop whwn running a game with sli and it doesnt support it though?
