Can't figure out how to get images to show on stories from news feed on my pixel 1st gen

So I've been having this issue on my phone for a while where I would swipe to the right from my home screen to go to stories as shown in the first image below. But when I click on a story none of the images show up like in the second image. I have to export it to a different browser like Mercury in order to get it to load as shown in the third image.

 

Does anyone know how to change the settings so images show up when I click on stories without having to export it?

Google App or Google News?

It's my news feed. The thing you access when you swipe right from your home screen.
