Can my computer support the 2070?

Recommended Posts

So. My system build is a i5 4690k @3.5mhz, a MSI z97 pc mate, with 2 sticks of ddr3 8gb ram. Will I need to upgrade my pc if I want to support the 2070? I know the card uses gddr6 and I don’t know if that affects my selection process for gpus

What PSU do you have?

Also, can you OC your CPU to 4.4 or 4.5 GHz?  That will help a lot.

The fact that it uses DDR6 doesn't have anything to do with it not being able to support.  The memory on the GPU is just part of what makes it perform like it does, which is what we're comparing.  Will your system be able to give the GPU what it needs to do what it does?

It will be fine for any games that aren't heavily multithreaded.

If you asked two years ago, "will my 4690k be enough for a GTX 1080?' it's the same answer as the cards are relatively similar in performance.

OC your 4690k if you haven't already

Apart from the PSU, that CPU won't hold a candle to that 2070. That is one hell of a card and pairing it with a 4th Gen i5, I don't see it being a good investment.

I don't see it being a good buy independently of any CPU.

But it won't bottleneck any worse than say a GTX 1080.
