Picking a GPU

So after a few days of looking around i think ive finished my first gaming PC build however im not all too knowledgeable when it comes to hardware so any input or advice would be appreciated. I've chosen a motherboard with itegrated WiFi since using ethernet wont always be an option and the small SSD will mainly be for storing my OS. The monitor also seems fairly good for the price considering it runs a nice 1080p 144hz.

 

Im curious to whether upgrading from an Rx580 to a mini GTX1070 is a good choice in terms of better performance (and maybe a small amount of future proofing?) since the difference between the two is 'only' £70. The likes of a 2060 or equivelant may be out of my price range for the time being but I could definitely look into getting one within the next 5/6 months.

 

What do you guys think?

The GTX 1660 ti is supposedly out tomorrow if you don't care about RTX. Looks like it will be roughly GTX 1070 performance or thereabouts.

If it comes out tomorrow, not a bad call. Sounds like it might be more expensive though.

Interesting! Maybe waiting a few days would be a good idea however i've just come across a RX Vega 56 for cheaper than the mini 1070 so now i've really got a dilemma.. Would you still recommend waiting on the 1660 ti?

Hard to say without benchmarks.. I love the Vega cards, you can undervolt it and overclock it. Playing with powertables will increase performance even more.. An overclocked Vega 56 will beat a 1070. It really depends on the one you found. I would only get liquid cooled, Nitro +, Red Devil, Red Dragon, or Pulse. I wouldn't get a blower card at all unless your case is well cooled and not sitting beside your monitor (noise and temps).. I would look into used as well, there's really nothing wrong with buying a used card..

Wait for reviews on the 1660 ti first. There are some listed on Scan website. Most are pre-order though. The Vega 56 is also a good gpu but I would avoid the blower versions.
