Hi, I am gonna be leaving for university and I need help solving my computer situation. I currently have computer I build on my own (RTX3070, 32 GB RAM, 5800X) and since i am going to be leaving for uni i need to figure out what laptop to buy or even if i should buy one. I am going to be studying aerospace engineering. I have 100 / 100 Mbs at home so i can remote into my computer without any problem. I am gonna be studying far from home (I will need to fly home), so taking my pc with me isnt really possible and still i would like to have something better than my ipad air 3. Also I don't want to buy ipad again. There are several ways I can solve my dilema: 1. Buy cheaper tablet for taking notes and just remote for heavier work. Something like samsung galaxy tab... 2. Buy Surface go (i5) and do essentially the same thing as with the tablet, but this would be more versatile and probably i wouldn't need to remote as often. 3. Buy Sufrace pro 9 and hope it will be enough, i could still remote home, but it is more powerfull. But higher end models are pretty pricey. 4. Buy Laptop and forget about taking hand-written. I have a few questions: Is there any other way to take notes digitally and not break a bank? Would any of these options be powerful enough for me? Is there some other alternative aka poweful windows laptop with touch support or notebook with stylus support? Are there any other options I didn't consider. I hope you can help me decide and choose.

Hello, I am in need of some help. A couple of months ago, I was cleaning my Surface Pro 7's drive in order to optimize and free up space using CCleaner. In doing so, I believe that I accidentally deleted some key drivers used for power management, battery monitoring, and battery display (how I managed to royally screw up so bad is a question I ask myself every day). Normally you'd think it'd be an easy fix, but it has been anything but easy. This is where I go over everything that I have done that I could possibly think of. I may be tech savvy, but I am not attuned to digging below the surface level of software. I have reset back to the last windows update, soft reset my surface (kept files and apps), hard reset my surface (wiped everything and start fresh), installed a fresh version of windows from Microsoft, installed the Create Windows 11 Installation Media tool, installed Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO), ran an in-place upgrade for windows 11, and downloaded the latest Surface Pro 7 drivers and firmware and I still cannot get the battery icon/drivers to work. I'm at the point where I don't know what to do next and all of the guides I try to lookup still have the battery drivers installed but they are either hidden or just not operating. There are no hidden drivers under device manager and the only thing that I can see that is an issue is the Surface Serial Hub Driver which has an error flag for: "This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE." I am out of my depth here with several support chats with Microsoft doing no good. I really need some help here guys. Anything and everything is appreciated if it helps me get full functionality of my Surface Pro 7 again Note: This is not a major issue in the sense that I cannot use my Surface whatsoever. Daily issues include: battery life has been noticeably affected, cannot monitor battery life at all, device shuts off without warning when the battery is dead, and date code and device memory does not update to current date and time until the device has been on for about 30 minutes or so and is essentially stuck in the last place and time that I had my Surface on.

Summary Today Microsoft unveiled its newest version of the Surface Laptop, the Surface Laptop 4. It comes in the same design as its predecessor, but with a choice of either AMD Ryzen™ Microsoft Surface® Edition processors (yes that is the marketing name Microsoft decided to go with), or Intel Core i-series processors. It retains the two sizes of its predecessors, and keeps the same colors. The base model of the 13.5" includes a Ryzen 5 4680U, 256GB of Storage, and 8GB of RAM for $999. The 15" model starts at $1299 for a Ryzen 7 4980U, 256GB, and 8GB of RAM. Interestingly, the Surface Laptop 4 13.5" cannot be configured with a Ryzen 7, but can be configured with a Core i7. The 13.5" model configured with a Ryzen 5 gets an advertised battery life of up to 19 hours, while the more expensive Core i5 gets up to 17 hours. Similarly, the Ryzen 7 in the 15" model gets an advertised battery life of 17.5 hours while the Core i7 gets an advertised battery life of only 16.5 hours. Microsoft did not make a battery life claim for the 13.5" model on a Core i7. In addition to the Surface Laptop 4, Microsoft have introduced the Surface Headphones 2+, with an included USB dongle for those who want less latency but are allergic to cables. If you aren't, however, Microsoft also released much cheaper wired and wireless headsets. The Surface Headphones 2+ are $299, and the headsets are $49.99 and $99.99 respectively. Alongside these headphones and headsets, to complete their audio strategy, Microsoft have released a USB-C speaker, designed for "casual listening", as it casually starts at $99... It's also important to note that all of the audio products released today are "certified for Microsoft Teams". Finally, Microsoft introduced a new webcam, capable of shooting 1080p30. This webcam does not include any Windows Hello facial recognition, and costs $69.99 Quotes My thoughts M1. You lose the upgradable SSD by going with a MacBook Air, but it's still a bit powerful in the CPU region and much powerful in the GPU region. Although these Ryzen CPUs (I'm completely leaving Intel out of the question for this) are completely new SKUs and I will eat my words if the r5 in this has a much faster GPU, I think the M1 is still a better value in the long run. And the battery life will be much better, and it's fanless, and it stays cool, and you get the perks of an ARM processor like instant wake (Microsoft's version has always not quite been to par with an actual ARM experience). If the Surface Laptop started at $799, it would've been an easier pill to swallow. But if you cross MacBook Air territory, expect to be compared to a MacBook Air. The only two benefits are 3:2 and touch. If you don't care about either, the MacBook Air is for you. In terms of comparisons to some Windows Laptops, the SL4 is almost double the price in some cases. Of course you lose out on build quality, touch in some cases, and the 3:2 screen, but I think more people are going to buy an HP or an Acer that's ~$600 than the SL4 15". But what confuses me is why they still treat AMD as a bargain basement build. Half of the Surface Laptop landing page is talking about how good Ryzen is, yet they cannot put a Ryzen 7 into the 13.5", but can put a Core i7, which uses 3 more watts than the Ryzen? (28W>25W) Could Microsoft stop half assing their products just to keep their "sacred" partnership with Intel alive? This isn't the first time they've done this. Allegedly, the Surface Go was going to use ARM chips, but Intel wanted them to use the just-as-slow Pentium Gold chips. Microsoft, figure yourself out... Hello everyone! I am a second year Computer Science student and I have been trying to decide which laptop to get for the past month. I initially wanted to get the surface pro laptop but it is so expensive and I have concerns about the keyboard as a programmer. My brothers both got surface pro's and they used them well. I would also get one if I knew that the keyboard won't annoy me after a while. I really loved the new Surface studio laptop and the Surface laptop 3 (with the detachable screen) are also very appealing to me. I am just shocked how much all laptops cost! I am currently using a restored Macbook pro 2014 13 inch with a HUION drawing pad to do my work. I love the macbook but I just need something to draw on lecture slides and do my math homework with! Does anyone have suggestions on what to get? Do I just have to spend a lot of money to get a good machine? (I have a gaming computer at home so I really just need a work machine that can do coding and a bit of multitasking)

So I'm trying to find an alternative to the built in Sketchpad app that came with windows 10 until 1809 (this:) Problem is they removed it if favour of Microsoft Whiteboard requires a microsoft account to use at all... I'm looking for a simple drawing app that has support for the surface pen (and eraser). Problem is every app I find either doesn't support the pen/eraser or has the most needlessly overcomplicated interface and 12,000 (/s) different pen types etc. I literally just want something I can draw on occasionally to make notes of something or keep score for a card game.... Alternatively if someone know how I could try and transfer the old sketchpad app from 1809 to modern versions of windows. But I doubt it'll work properly as I think it's part of the ink workspace app.

I am using the Surface Go 2 with the newest Windows 11 Beta version. After turning my Surface on (from standby) i noticed that my pen was not writing anything, however all the buttons were still working (and it was connected via bluetooth). I could even erase with the back of the pen, but not write. I had another pen before, however it stopped responding too, so I sent it back, and now this new pen isn't working aswell. Is there anything I could try doing? What I already tried: Restarting my Surface and the pen Reinstalling every pen driver Reconnecting the pen Trying other pens (they all worked) Trying my pen on another Surface device (it didn't work) New Battery

The Surface Laptop Studio is a new premium windows machine from Microsoft. Too bad they didn't make it easier to open...

Does anyone know how to dig into the bios of a Surface Laptop 3 and make changes? The Surface face-level bios is glorified chromebook status, with the most advanced thing I can modify being turning off Secure Boot (which Microsoft doesn’t like) - anyone know how I can dig deeper? Need to turn off and edit much more than that for a project. The only mention of this I have found online is that it requires Enterprise software, which I cannot find anything to confirm or falsify that, or even what software that would be. Thanks

With Windows 11 supporting Android apps and plenty of features were made for device like Surface Neo. Will a device like Surface Duo (or other smartphone types) run a Windows 11 type of OS? So I just got the Surface Duo and I am really liking it so far, except for one little thing: How do I swap out the M365 feed for the Google one? (the little news feed you get when you swipe from the left on the home screen) There was someone on Reddit who claimed they did it, but they're not answering. Title isn't a lie. I recently had a work experience (thing all year 10s do in australia) at my grandad's tech support business. We had recently received a shipment from a client containing 71 genuine microsoft surface chargers. To make a long story short, my boss/grandad said i could take them home to sell. Being a 15 year old who needs a new chair, i said yes. Fast forward around a month or two and i've listed them on facebook groups, gumtree (local ebay) and ebay for $45 AUD (around $31 USD) and i've gotten no interest. Do you guys have any ideas? I am having issues with my Surface Laptop 3 (Windows 11) it keeps burning my lap and doesn't run as fast as it did a couple of months ago. Any idea's of what I can do to fix it?

Basically last night, my surface pro x updated windows, and this morning i wake up and i the surface slim pen doesnt work. I tried removing it as a connected bluetooth device and pairing it again, but it doesnt work. the weird part is that it still detects it, when i click the top button of my pen, it still responds and lets me take a screenshot of the screen, however when i put the tip of the pen on the screen, it doesnt detect anything. another odd thing is that the wifi button completely disappeared, i cant connect to the internet now.

A prayer sent up to the gods of techedness, I own a windows surface 3, and I wish I had seen Linus Rex's review first, but alas, I did not. My co worker gave me His 100% identical Surface, with a busted screen. So I open it up, and all the components are wrapped in that silver stuff, and read about how hard it was going to be to "finish" taking out the old surface and adding a new one. So, that wasn't gonna happen, so Im left with all these components, and I would like to know if I can use anything Inside the other Surface? I want to make a "super surface", originally the idea was to make it a 2 sided touch screen double surface, velcroed together or something, but I saw how hard the screen was to fix, I I felt making an animal sacrifice to the tech gods would be a good idea first. So I've just got my Surface laptop 3 13.5 inch i5 256gb yesterday and everything has been great except for one thing. THE BATTERY. Microsoft claimed that their battery lasts 11.5 hours with typical usage but with my use which is just two chrome tabs and an occasional youtube video lasts me abut 4 - 5 hours. Hello all, I have recently been fortunate enough to receive a Surface Book (i7 CPU). However, often when I am looking at photos or watching YouTube, the device becomes very hot to the touch, but until now I haven't checked the temperatures. With Google Chrome and MS Word open, the CPU is hovering at around 70oC. Also, when I played some Overwatch on the laptop, it reached 80oC. Are these temperatures normal for the Surface Book, or should I look at seeing if I can get it replaced? Thanks!

Hello, was wondering about any major differences in the Surface Pro 3 4GB and 8GB models, I know about the difference in SSD size, but i was wanting to know which one would best suit my needed, I am a student, so all of those basic taskes would hopefully be included in both, I also want to watch netflix, which ii know is fairly consming, and finally i would like to do some basic painting/photoshopping on the tablet, hope you can help me out, thanks much!

Although the idea of having a single ecosystem in order your employees can work and collaborate seamlesly between each other is no new, IMHO Microsoft is onto something here and price being a quite stingy matter for some of those machines like the Surface Hub for example that would put 75%-90% of all SmB out of the questionsthe concept is really intresting and another angle that Microsoft could tangle is having Youtubers like Jonathan Morrison or Kevin Benson or even Linus to shwocase them in a sponsored video the "Creative Studio of the future or something" in order to reach even more people and of course drive prices down a noch cause at this point they just copy Apple in pricing and still not that great style IMO. So, i know the Surface Pro 4 has a 2736x1824 screen resolution, which is slightly above 2560x1440. Does this mean the Surface Pro 4 can play videos in 1440p, or will it play in 1080p instead?
