Apologies if this isn't allowed here, I haven't used a forum in years and just popped in here hoping for some help. A week or so ago I gave away my LTT dad hat to my niece as she took a liking to it, and I naively figured I could just buy another one. Turns out they're no longer sold, and while they were a bonus bin item for a bit, they aren't even there anymore. So my most comfortable dad hat is gone and I can't get another! I know they have the waterproof hats coming, but I was wondering if anyone knows who manufactured LTT's dad hats, or if there are any other retailers which sell the same ones (with different patterns of course)?

does anybody have the link to the video where Linus bought an ad spot because their wasn't one for the end of the video so he spent like 20 seconds roasting Colton?

Hi, there LTT community, I have been considering building a pc for my dad and really like the dual Xeon idea from Linus' video. Just wanted to know of any problems with the following as a build. TIA Build: CPU: Dual Xeon E5440 4C @2.83Ghz MOBO: Dell RW199 Precision T7400 Workstation Motherboard RAM: Samsung / Kingston 16GB (4X4GB) PC2-5300F DDR2-667MHZ ECC FB-DIMM GPU: Geforce GTX 970 (second hand) PSU: Not sure yet as not sure on power and connection requirements - Any suggestions welcome. SSD: Samsung 250GB 840 EVO - As I already have one of these that he can have and I know that the board only supports SATA 3.0Gb/s and the SSD supports 6.0Gb/s HDD: Toshiba P300 500GB 7200RPM HDD

I was looking to build my dad a new computer for father's day as he is still using an i3 3240 and regularly complains that his work-related software runs very poorly on it. This is the parts list I decided on. I already own that GPU, and the CPU is available for $149 at microcenter, so the price is about $70 less than listed. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/spitty84/saved/#view=dBN8K8 What do you guys think about using this 8 year old GPU? He doesn't play games or do any 3D design.

I found a pretty good deal on Craigslist for a pc and I really want to but it here are the specs Motherboard: Asrock 990fx Killer Ram: 8gb dd43 Crucial Ballistix Tactical 1600MHz Ram: 4gb of Samsung M378b5773CHO Ddr3 ram Power Supply: Corsair 650m Cpu Cooler: Cryorig C7 Cpu: AMD FX-4350 Quad Core Processor 4.20 Ghz Graphics Card: Nvidia Gtx 550ti Hardrive: 1tb laptop hardrive $260 but he keeps on saying that I need to buy new bc of not knowing what viruses and porn he has on the pc and it’s really annoying he keeps telling me to buy one from Best Buy, but I know that they won’t have anything close to those specs for the price, but he just won’t listen. He is so paranoid!!! Plz help

Good (whatever time of day you currently have)! Dear community, it has happened. My dad, who started out decades ago with building his own pcs and playing games like Quake, Unreal and Doom, has stopped playing. His age (59) is not the problem in this case. He is a big fan of all Unreal Tournament games and always played them as if there is no tomorrow. When he heard there will be an Unreal Tournament 4 game, he even bought a new machine with a GTX 1070 and he was filled with excitement while playing the open alpha build of the game. But then he read UT4 will be discontinued due to Fortnite development. That information broke his heart. Since then he hasn't touched his pc. He played Doom as his last game, mostly because I gifted it to him. He has this 1700$ machine, just catching dust and my mom told me he's aging a lot faster since he's not training his hand-eye coordination and reaction times anymore. He used to be rank 8 on the Unreal Tournament 3 world ranks. Probably you have met him in an exciting match on Suspense. (McMar is his username) My mom asked me if I can suggest a game she can buy him so he can play on his machine again. He used to pick a weekend or two in the month to play 2 days straight while enjoying a cold whiskey with coke. The problem is, he can't get along with games that need you to upgrade gear, change weapon configurations (like in BF), learn different heroes (new arena shooters) and communicate a lot in english (he can't speak english well). He tried Quake champions but didn't like it. He really loves arena fps in Ulreal Tournament style. Does anybody have a clue what game he could play that fits his machine (i7-8gen, Gtx 1070), is mostly multiplayer, is not that old and does not require to much learning (like different heroes and weapon sets, special abilities and communication). It doesn't need to be an arena fps. I just want my dad to have fun again. I am very gratefull for every recommendation, since I don't play fps games myself, I'm more on the strategic and simulation side. Have a nice day! tl:dr - I need a game recommendation for my dad. He loved arena fps but the game shouldn't be complicated for an old man.

I want to build a pc for my dad for around 650€ (SPAIN). All parts will be bought in EU. He is the average user, he checks his emails, he writes some documents and uses internet. The requirments are: Intel based It must be the fastest possible for that price range, therefore, the main focuses are the proccessor and ram. It must be able to handle our internet connection so it can take advantage of it (300Mbps downloading, 30Mbps uploading) *I don´t consider buying a gpu since I think it would be more than enough with the integrated grapichs. But this is not mandatory. If u think that is better to put a gpu, go ahead. Thank u so much in advance.

So my dad would like to upgrade to a brand new computer to surf the web on. So I planned one out for him, and when I showed him the plans I started talking about my computer and how I want to upgrade my Motherboard, so he had the idea of just using my motherboard for his computer. My current motherboard is the Asus z170-a therefore I need a skylake processor for him. So this is the build http://pcpartpicker.com/list/KZBJxY Should I change Anything? or is this okay? Remember all he does is surf the web and download things, he is no gamer. ~Jelly

So recently my fathers computer that he have had for 10 years just isn't cutting it(who would have guessed). And I have built several pc myself, for myself. But I have only built high end gaming pc. And what my father needs is a very basic pc. He will mainly use it for work, sorting documents and emails, and he works on a external desktop system. He also needs 2 screens for productivity. While I could just go out and buy him a prebuilt pc I would see if people have some suggestions for me, and what to look out for, what is worth spending extra money on, and what isn't. I would prefer a small factor pc, but it is no way needed. So if anyone have any input on maybe a build I could make for him(with part list), or a prebuilt pc that is good(for him). And it would be a pro if it was somewhat silent. If there is room for a SSD for fast startups that would be nice too, but not needed. As my father do need some harddrive space to store documents and reports(several years worth). And as I mentioned the last pc he had lasted for 10 years, so he isn't a heavy user. I ask the community here for help because I don't have experience with building work pc or knowing what is important in terms of value vs cost. Hope I can get some good and useful feedback

Hey all, So, recently, my beloved father has decided to upgrade his ASUS UX32A notebook (3rd gen i5, 10GB RAM and some HDD) to Windows 10. Before, on Windows 7, it was running fine, booting in about 15 to 20 seconds, reasonably quick. But, since the upgrade, it was extremely sluggish. It would take upwards of five minutes to boot into the lock screen and a further two or three to get from the password entering stage to desktop. He decided to restore the machine to factory settings and reinstall Windows, with the hope that this would fix the issue. So, it's now a completely new install of W10, and guess what? It's still got the same issues. So, I was a little confused, and just now, whilst literally idling on the lock screen, I got a BSOD. The description was thus: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. It recovered itself and hasn't blue screened since, but it's still incredibly slow to boot and very sluggish even in the OS. Anything he can do to try and revive his faithful workhorse? Any and all suggestions are appreciated, please help my old man get his laptop back (if you need any more information to try and work something out, please just ask and I'll try and find out)

Could i access my fathers computer remotely in some way?
techswede posted a topic in Troubleshooting
So yeah. My father fell victim to microsofts constant bothering about windows 10 and upgraded. And now his printer doesn't work and all kinds of other bothers. The problem is that he is pretty far away. Needs the printer for his job. (He needs to be able to make offers and write invoices) And i can't make it out there until this weekend. So i need a way to access his computer over the internet. I could google this i know but you guys are usually really handy about this stuff. He is running windows 10. I'm running windows 8.1 and Ubuntu if that helps in any way Thanks in advance- 11 replies

Hey guys I've been considering using a spare H97 board I got before I got the Z97 Sabertooth I'm using now (Haven't built my own PC yet, still need the GPU) to build a new system, and I was thinking, hmm, I know my Dad wants a new computer. I've got some parts planned out, and I wanted to theme it around Arctic Storm Zotac GTX 980Ti, and I also want to see if you guys can watercool the whole system for cheap My Dad's current CPU is an i7 at 3.3 Ghz, he didn't say the architecture, and as far as I know, a GTX 660? (Dunno?). He runs dual monitors at 1080p, and I was hoping to get the watercooled Zotac GTX 980Ti, since the H97 is a single GPU board, but I can't find anyone that has one and is willing to sell it. Sorry about all that, here's the current "Arctic Storm" PC build, using my 750W PSU, if this is affordable I may just go ahead and use my 750W for it and get myself a 1000W PSU for dual 980Ti's for myself -Also, feel free to change out the fans if you wish, I want this build as quiet as possible. If GPU and CPU can be watercooled, and it's easy, no complicated, just hook it up and run it, I'll go for it. Just keep in mind, blue LED fans are great, and one red LED fan for accent would be awesome My total budget for this, (including the case) is around 800-1000, if I find someone who wants to sell the Zotac Arctic Storm card, or I consider it worth it, I may get it Please feel free to mix and match, you can use whatever GPU you want and whatever CPU. -Please keep in mind, the motherboard cannot be changed, and the final case may change, however I will ensure that it can fit whatever you guys come up with And please keep it as low of a noise level as possible (fans and system -800-1000 at the most, if a Zotac Arctic Storm card is available. And they change them anyway "Here, this is a better budget build". Rant over, thanks everyone, please, please, please please get as many people as possible to come up with stuff, I need as many ideas as possible and as much input as you guys can give me

So, I have tried to talk to my mom about seeing my dad more often, and whenever I do she starts yelling at me about how I just want to go there to use my computer. I genuinely feel like it would be good for me. How can I convince my mom this?

My dad has seen me unplugging an Ethernet cable while my Pc was turned on, and he thinks this damages the router. He took my cable and I now have to deal with a Wi-Fi G PCI card. How do I convince him that it's just like unplugging a USB device?

My dad works mainly from home, so I have a separate network for him, and I'm currently moving from a room down to my recently(kinda) finished basement for an office space that I work and goof off from. I moved most of the equipment last night but forgot to switch over a network cable and SSID so the Wi-Fi was overlapping badly and his AP was disconnect from the internet, thus internet only worked in the basement. He woke me up this morning freaking out and yelling at me saying "NORTH KOREA MUST HAVE HACKED THE INTERNET IT'S NOT WORKING". That's how my day has been, I really hope you all don't have a family THIS bad...

I think having kids affected Linus's capacity for comedy.

Hey guys, I've been looking for a keyboard for my Dad for Xmas but I can't seem to find good ones. He doesn't use his computer much so it doesn't have to be top of the line, but he needs his 10keys and Backlight. I've been looking into: the Moshi Luna: http://www.moshi.com/family-peripherals-keyboards-luna Which does look pretty good but is unfortunately impossible to get by here in the EU. Then there's the Logitech K800: http://www.logitech.fr/fr-fr/product/wireless-illuminated-keyboard-k800 But its Media keys are freaking ORANGE! Who could of thought it would be a good idea? No one who would buy this keyboard has orange accents on their setup, even though its pretty rare. And the automatic backlight switching off and on would be a real pain in the ass, having to wave over your keyboard each and every time you stopped typing for more than 3 seconds... I'm not convinced. Also the CM Storm Devastator Combo (Thanks to: Archangel1994 ): http://gaming.coolermaster.com/en/products/keyboards/devastator/ Which does look pretty decent for the price and a mouse included! And the Steelseries APEX [RAW]: http://steelseries.com/products/keyboards/steelseries-apex-raw-gaming-keyboard That I think I'm going with because the devastator has amazing value but is known for having a poor reliability... I'd rather spend more to get more and I have 30€ off so its a pretty good deal. And that's about all I found, you experts got any recommendations?

So my dad is a casual gamer so he doesn't really need to play on ultra. His rig has a pentium dual core e5700 3.0Ghz and an AMD Sapphire Radeon HD 6570 with 4gb of 1600Mhz dd3 RAM and literally all games are unplayable at the lowest resolution on the lowest settings even on an old game like Assassin's Creed 2 and I know that even with these specs the games should be totally playable. What might be wrong as to why it can't handle even old games?

My dad (who is an audiophile and has been for decades, and also is a music promoter for a living and was also in a band) just said to me that beats headphones were good, despite being a sworn senhiser customer for years. I don't really know what to say. Sure I was guilty of liking razer headphones for a while, but I realized the error of my ways as soon as I tried my friend's pair. But that was different. I'm very new to the audio scene and I liked the look of the striking green and black design. However, my dad is part of the music industry and loves everything about it so surely he should know better? Anyway, this was really just one of those "What has the world come to" kind of posts, so sorry if you came here looking for an interesting and thought provoking topic Thanks -Billy

So my dad needs a new pc because the other one just stopped working and it was 2 old to even bother fixing. He obviously doesnt need a GPU or tonnes of ram and storage. Also he doesnt have to spend 600 its just the max. I dont really know about low budget and non gaming pc's so i need some help deciding the parts. thx.

I'm replacing my dad's old LGA775 computer with a brand-spankin' new Haswell computer soon and with that, a new monitor; he's currently using a Samsung 22" SyncMaster T220 LCD monitor. Here's the kicker: He has a very high eye prescription and has had eye surgery recently. He also works from home a fair bit so needs a good monitor which minimizes eye strain. He feels 22" is a bit too small and 30" too big so a 24" or 27" would work best is my guess. My thoughts: -IPS panel for best color reproduction -at least 1080p (his current monitor is 1680x1050), maybe 1440p? -60/120 Hz? Any other ideas? I appreciate any input you guys can provide me with.
