source: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/16pdf/15-1189_ebfj.pdf via: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/legal/lexmark-loses-supreme-court-case-users-can-sell-refurbished-ink-cartridges/ this "debate" corporation vs refurbishing is rather old and it stretches through the history ever since patent law (15th century) in this particular case, the basic idea is that Lexmark opposed sale of refurbished cartridges and claimed Impression Products not only violated patent law but also contract law what happened? Impression bought used cartridges, refurbished and refilled them and offered them for sale - Lexmark went berserk, as expected, and sued on March 21 the case reached the Supreme Court and it was up to them to rule on whether US law surrounding patent exhaustion allows post-sale restrictions and if sales of a patented article outside of the US on March 30th, the Supreme Court ruled 8-0 in favor of Impression Products: the decision will go down in history and will affect all future sale of refurbished cartridges and will put a stop on future similar litigations from corporations like Lexmark corporations like Lexmark sold printers at a low cost knowing end-users will pay more from sale of new cartridges; entities like Impression Products bought the used cartridges, refurbished and refilled them and then sold them at a much lower price than a Lexmark new cartridge but there are implications for US' Supreme Court ruling that will also affect other fields like automotive industry, medical equipment, agricultural equipment

Privacy is now a commodity. Congress has just voted to throw American's privacy rights out the windows95 with SJR34, "a resolution that allows Internet Service Providers to collect, and sell your sensitive data without your consent or knowledge". ~ https://www.gofundme.com/BuyCongressData?d=153161068 This effects all of us (whether you are from the US or not), the go fund me above was not started by me, but is the only immediate solution to this problem that we all face. Anyone that is well versed in preventing ISPs from collecting your data, please share your methods here.

america Searching for a cheap weekly mobile data plan in NYC
JackPendragon posted a topic in Networking
So I'm visiting NYC tomorrow and I made myself the question: "How the f*ck am I going to use internet on my phone without having to do the hunt for open wifi hotspots". I've been searching for some weekly cheap ones (since I'm only staying for a week) but the only ones I found were monthly and quite expensive, I'm searching for an around 10-15Gb plan, I don't really care much about high speeds nor calls since whatsapp ones are over internet. (Also, I'm visiting from Spain) Thanks beforehand -
Recently I'm seeing lots of news about US government shut down. Since I'm not from America (not even from Canada for that matter) I have a hard time understanding what's happening there. So can someone please explain it to me. I'm wondering how on the earth the president could shut down the whole government without asking the parliament, it seems like US is having a dictatorship rather than democracy (please don't get mad at me, but it seems like that)

With the ever changing US immigration laws it's getting harder and harder for tech companies to hire the skilled workers they want from abroad. It seems microsoft is now planning on moving some of it's operations abroad if these problems persist. If the administrations is going to make the rules even more strict it could mean that a lot of employees won't be able to work at microsoft anymore: But altough we sometimes want to believe microsoft is a very evil company they do actually value their employees and said: It's good to see companies valuing their employees and looking for solutions. Personally I wonder if these kind of concerns are related to more and more tech companies having branches in Europe or moving research facilies to europe like google recently announcing they would open a Machine Learning center in Amsterdam. What do you guys think about this? Should microsoft do this or should they do what the US want and drop these foreign people and only hire american people? Well let me introduce myself I'm Savageiste or Jon Whatever works Now I have recently gotten my first job (computer technician at best buy) and have been well mapping my life I'm interested in becoming a software engineer or an animator and I have also been noticing that USA, America, US whatever you call it have been going to crap with all the riots and protests about well stupid little things that these morons consider huge right infringements (note that was opinion so don't rage storm this post because I disagree with that, the right to disagree always holds true in my book) and I've thought well New Zealand is pretty beautiful, clean, laid back, people aren't fighting over a blonde billionaire being the land's ruler and I just like it and I mean it maybe an isolated island but it's quite modern (although expensive amazon packages can still get there within the same week and even the free tier is within 1.5-2 weeks) and they have this Skilled Migration Program where I you have the skills they need in their economy they'll give you a 2 year residential visa and if it works a permanent resident visa which is as close to being a citizen as can be (with the exception of running for prime minister or joining their rugby team) and I looked it up they lack IT AND MULTIMEDIA so they WILL TAKE SOFTWARE ENGINEERS AND ANIMATORS!!! it will probably be hard to find a job but with some saving up I can could make it work. so see a plane to Auckland will cost $800 (probably reduced in the future) plus a single 400 square-foot apartment just outside of Auckland would be anywhere from $1500 to $2000 a month in us dollars (depends on facilities and how far from Auckland tho) and if I add in internet, food, utilities, entertainment (I won't need much insurance because medical care is cheap sometimes free based on the situation and ambulances are charitable so 100% FREE they don't got that in america so cost of living would be $3000 a month or 4486.05 Kiwis (New Zealand Dollars) per month and also it would be $2000 for the visa so if i save a year of living ($36,000) plus the $3000 to even get there and $1000 for a car there plus any other last resort money I could possibly need so I could be at $50,000 needed for this to be secure I very well could start saving up 20-25% now and in several years after college and having a few job years I could reasonably do this (at least if it goes right) so what do you all say yeah go for it? a change in plans? maybe not because of a reason I didn't consider or know about?

On Thursday, US senator for California Diane Feinstein has said in a press release that the 1971 publication titled "The Anarchist's Cookbook" should be removed from the Internet. The statement was in response to the arrests of two women accused of plotting to conduct a terrorist attack in New York City. According to the source, their copy of the book was given to the suspects by an undercover FBI agent. Well, we all know how this is going to turn out.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect Sources; http://benswann.com/senator-feinstein-pushes-for-the-anarchist-cookbook-to-be-banned-from-the-internet/ http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/04/02/dianne-feinstein-says-the-anarchists-cookbook-should-be-removed-from-the-internet/ http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2015/4/feinstein-statement-on-terrorism-arrests(Statement)

Good morning! I posted in the Linus site when I first started planning this computer, and now I think I have everything I need picked out, but I wanted to get some things double checked before I go through with buying everything, in case I should tweak anything. My part list can be found here http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ If you don't like clicking on links, I'll post it here. CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU COOLER - Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler MOTHERBOARD - Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory SSD - Intel 530 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive HDD - Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive GRAPHICS CARD - MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card CASE - Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case PSU - Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply OPTICAL DRIVE - Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer MONITORS - (2 or 3) Acer H226HQLbid 60Hz 21.5" Monitor' OR 25 inch model Now I want to get 2 or 3 of the monitors, and was curious about getting the 21 inch for 116 or the 24 inch for 150. Right now I use a 29 inch and a 17 inch side-by-side, and it is terrible. One is too big for anything except watching videos, and the other one is so small that anything that goes there is only used when necessary. I could benefit from having more screen real estate at work, so I was considering those monitors, or just getting one, and then sticking an LG 21:9 monitor next to it, but the 25 inch model seems so small. This entire build is open to criticism, and aside from a couple of personal favorites, it's all up to better suggestions, keeping in mind that this is extremely value oriented aside from the processor and graphics card. You guys were amazing last time I had a question, and I know that Linus' fanbase/supporters were the right people to go to for things like this. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

I've been to 3 in total, all the states on the west coast. California was my favorite by far. I've lived here in Oregon all my life and, sadly, the rain and nature-yness of it just doesn't suit me. Never been elsewhere so I might be jumping the gun on my favorite but I do love SoCal and can't imagine liking another part of the country anywhere near as much. What's your favorite state? For you international folks what looks most appealing to you and why? *There will be no poll on here nor strawpoll as they are limited to 20 and 30 options respectively.

The article from The Verge I remember Sony said something (can't remember when) about how its a big mistake to spin-off the VAIO brand. I wonder if Sony would've been able to fix their problems without getting rid of VAIO. And that PC looks really cool, a friggin beast, and really damn expensive! I wonder what the battery life will be like with all that power.

REPOST: ORIGINAL ARTICLE BY Victorius Secret http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/321739-net-neutrality-is-not-for-europe/ Original Article: The Verge: http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/4/8147015/eu-net-neutrality-proposals So, a week after America and the FCC voted FOR Net Neutrality, it seams that EU is going backwards and taking Americas stance before Net Neutrality. That's right, The EU is considering on letting ISPs offer internet with options for better internet with "Fast Lanes" or paid prioritization. They agree the Neutrality is important, but now on how to classify special services on tip. I'm sorry, What? The Definition of Net Neutrality is everything is treated the same, it doesn't matter if they are classed as "special", Neutrality is still Neutrality. Telecom Operators welcomed this option, (no surprise) claiming, Liberal Politicians condemn these proposals claiming It must be noted these are Leaked plans, first the 28 member states will have to vote on it before it even reaches the EU Parliament, hopefully if it makes it there it will be blocked, if not, God help the EU. My Thoughts? What. The. Actual. F**k? You mean to tell me that the EU is actually considering this? The fact that this is even being contemplated is absurd. Paid Prioritization should just die, because that is what is going to happen if the EU allows Net Neutrality to be broken. My internet is Ok, I have no need for a fast lane service, yet, Becasuse I already have the best connection available from BT, in my area. If they bring out a "Fast lane" option and still expect me to pay full price for my connection, they can sod off. I just hope that the people of the EU can preserve or ask for Net Neutrality much like the US did, with their voices, and stand up to governments. Your Thoughts, Please leave your express opinions down below. Thanks for reading.

Recently in class we finished the Great Gatsby and now we have to write an essay on the current condition of the American dream. I've already have my opinion on this and I was just wondering what you guys think. I think that it is dead and no longer exists, but that's just me. Here's a straw poll on whether or not the dream is dead: http://strawpoll.me/1603181 If you don't think that it is dead I'd be interested to here why so comment why thanks.

The "no tolerance" bullshit for minor things in schools is getting more out of hand each year, I swear. Back when I was 6, if you kissed a girl on the cheek or whatever, it wasn't a big deal. Now? A kid in Colorado kissed a girl on the hand and gets suspended for "sexual harassment", I kid you not! These hardcore "convervative" nut cases need to drown themselves in the shallowest of pools, not the gene pool, though. *Note I used "conservative" in air quotes as actual conservatives would never do something so dumb. Source: http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/11/living/6-year-old-suspended-kissing-girl/ I can't be the only one going wtf to this.
