Hi, I've got a network configured like this: Internet -> router (on 10.10.10.1) to provide addresses to devices in 10.10.10 network -> router (on 10.20.20.1) to provide wireless to other devices Problem is that from devices in 10.10.10.x I can't even get a ping to devices in 10.20.20.x network. Both routers operate on OpenWRT.

Please note I have previously unbranded this router to remove the Eircom firmware and it now runs the latest (at least at the time) Zyxel officially released stable firmware. On my new Samsung J series TV I cannot let it update from factory firmware or I will not be able to sideload apps from USB, which would restrict me to having only apps from one country installed at a time, basically it is Irish RTÉ, TG4, 3Player OR British iPlayer, All4, ITVHub - not both sets. Samsung made a change in this series of television so that disabling updates from the normal and service menus does not stop updates fully, and the firmware will still update. The only way around this is to block updates at the network level. The domains I need to block are the following: msecnd.netsamsungotn.net I am testing for success by attempting to block just the first domain, first on my PC, which has the hostname roadrunner and the MAC address you will see in the screenshot. I have been testing by trying to load this link in a new browser tab: https://az833301.vo.msecnd.net/ What I have tried so far: 1. Using Security >> Parental Control. Just in case the settins were phrased badly, I tried sliding the bar so that no access was from '00:00 - 24:00' but this made no difference. Also, I am not able to select '00:01 - 24:00', the earliest next available is '00:30 - 24:00'. I tried with an without a network service setting configured as above. The input box for site/URL keyword would not accept the asterisk when I tried to enter *.mscend.net. 2. Using Security >> Firewall. The IP below was in the output of ping msecnd.net yesterday, but now there is no reply, even from other devices on the network. Also, blocking by IP may be risky - if the TV is configured to look for updates by host@Domain16, and they change the IP, it will update. I know it says destination IP address below, but just in case I tried entering msecnd.net but it would not accept it. It also would not let me enter a port range 1-65535, so I left it without a port setting. Definition of the 247 scheduler rule. I experimented with changing the time from '00:00 - 00:00' to '00:00 - 23:59' but this made no difference: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neither of my two attempts above to block access to the domain msecnd.net worked, although when I experimented with the ACL set to ICMP instead of TCP/UDP - it did stop ping replies from the IP before I removed it. Please advise, am I missing something in my settings or is the config on this Zyxel just bugged or not able to block domains? Is there anything I can do? I really want to hook the new TV up to the network so I can stop using the Roku 3 for on demand media!

I am currently using Avg antivirus but am not too satisfied. The only reason that I am using it is its interactive firewall. Is there any other AV with interactive firewall like avg?

My knowledge of internet security stuff is a tad sketchy.. Is a firewall the equivalent of an Anti-virus? Would I be right in thinking that a router is a hardware firewall while a computer anti-virus program is a software firewall? If for example, you had a firewall enabled on your router, would you need a firewall/Anti-virus on your PC?

So I just turned my computer on today and I've been getting "Port Scan Blocked" from Bitdefender. This is the first time I've encountered this. Any possible reasons as to why this happens ? I tried google but I can't seem to find some solid answer. (Or maybe I just didn't understand the answers I got) Some Screenshots:

Hello forum, So we finally gave up on our old isp, and switched to a 30/3 plan from 6/0.5... Now, the problem is, we have a firewall on our network that is capping our speed at around 10mbit. (Netgear fvs318) When reading about the firewall, it claims that it can handle 100mbit throughput. I've updated the firmware, and it stays at the same speed. Help?

I was wondering if you guys know any good places to look for kind of "101 guides" for firewall configuring. I have a Juniper SSG5 firewall but as I don't know really _that_ much zone based firewalls and how exactly they are configured, there is no use for it. Basically I need basic guidance with configuring firewalls with netbased (Netscreen) OS. Does anyone possibly know any good places to look for guides?

Do I need a firewall in Windows 7? (I already have an antivirus and Malwarebytes).

Source This will allow American businesses who would like to have fast access through China's Firewall, including businesses inside of it. It will see improvements to their services as traffic handled by the partnership service is sped up. Due to legal restrictions in China's Law, many companies like Uber and Linkedin had to follow enabling data collection and censoring (respectively) in order to open up in China. With this partner ship, the laws fall onto Baidu, but with Cloudflare operating outside of China, it can allow encryption for cross-border payments. This will allow more international businesses to operate in China and vice versa with businesses inside of it.

Hello, i'm a little bit stuck and i'm hoping to find some help here My home network is 192.168.1.0/24. In this network i've got a pfSense firewall running that only serves as an OpenVPN server. It has it's WAN interface connected to my LAN. The problem is that when connected to the VPN it connects me to the virtual network that the OpenVPN server creates. However i want it to connect to my LAN (so the pfSense's WAN). Does anyone how i'd do something like this? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if anyone here has had past experience with PfSense Firewall installations, but I usually roll these out with customers who require a cheap reliable firewall setup, but I always use end up using an HDD from a donor PC that they have. I've done a little research on the benefits of using an SSD for Pfsense, but this article came up against it: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=34381.0 But that was dated back to 2011, we have much better and much more reliable SSD's on the market now than we did in 2011. And they're experience with dead SSD's were with 8GB - 16GB capacity drives. My idea was to use something like a Samsung 850 Pro 120GB for the drive, but I'm not sure if the risk of killing the SSD is worth the performance gain (Not even sure if there IS a significant performance gain with an SSD) that Samsung has a 5 year warranty, but I don't want the drive to die and have their firewall be dead until I get a replacement. Reliability is top priority for the drive. So, does anyone HAVE experience with PfSense? If so, do you use a regular HDD, or an SSD in your build? I'm curious to see if it's worth it to start rolling these things out with SSD's for faster boot times.

Hi there everyone, I hope this is the right section to be posting this, if not I am sorry. So in a month or so I will be leaving to go to the UK for school for a couple of years, it is a boarding school and we are required to use school internet. I have done basic research into finding out how to bypass firewalls set in place and I have come to the conclusion that I am going to use a VPN service to try and bypass the blocks set in place. I am going to use https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ a paid vpn service. Now I just wanted to know if this will work, and if so would there be anything special I would need to do in order to not get the vpn service blocked. Please feel free to discuss what might work if the vpn service will not work. Thanks and have a great day!!!! FYI I will need access for applications such as teamspeak and game servers that I play on. *For Windows

I use Kaspersky internet security on my laptop and I also run a freenas server on my network. This is a problem because I am unable to access my freenas server while Kaspersky's firewall is in place. As seen in the picture below... And when I turn the firewall off... So how do I make an exception for my freenas server to get through the firewall. I've looked and can't seem to find a place to allow its ip address through. Is there another way to do this? (I do want to keep using Kaspersky's firewall)

Hey guys! I recently bought an EdgeRouter Lite from Ubiquity and it so far has been the best router/firewall I have ever used! 1m PPS for 90 bucks!!! I think it would be awesome if LTT were to do a review of the EdgeRouter Pro. 350 bucks, 2M+ pps, 2 SFP ports, 2GB DDR3 RAM. Since Linus now has fiber, the ER Pro would be perfect considering its 2 SFP ports. I'm sure UBNT would even send a free one out for them. I also use 2 ER-LITEs in my datacenter. I get .2 ms pings to google (LAX). Keep in mind, the datacenter is next door to One Wilshire, a huge internet hub, so all the connections are fiber. Biggest response time is the copper line from my EdreRouters to the meet-me-room at the datacenter. My Speedtest Result At Home: Please excuse my bad ping and upload speed, I have COAX. Sadly, I could not take a speedtest at the datacenter, because the DDOS equiptment thinks speedtest.net is an attack, and they will limit bandwidth to speedtest.

Has anyone experienced a problem as of late? my desktop and my macbook have both given the same posts even on different networks. When opening spotify it will either give this post or it will ask me to log in. As soon as I do log in i get the same post. I am thinking a patch got rolled out and its bugged. I have disabled my firewall for giggles and got the same post. Looks like I will just need to wait for a new patch to roll out.

After recently becoming sick of zone alarm being a pain and eating my CPU, I have decided to look into other antiviruses, of course I immediately looked up linus's as fast as possible on the topic and I was introduced to the idea of antimalware, which I had heard of but thought was just another name for antivirus, BUT NO! Now I have been introduced to another new type of protection, what do I get, what do I need? I am happy to spend a little since I was previously buying zone alarm premium, after nearly settling on avast and malware bytes, I looked at the avast comparisons and realised, wait! I don't get this firewall thing, do I need it? So after running in circles, getting confused again and doing my head in, I decided to ask people who know much more on the subject than I do, so I came here. So what do I do, antivirus, antimalware, firewall, what do I need, what premiums are worth it and what do you personally use? Thanks in advance P.S. If this is in the wrong section, feel free to tell me, I'm new to this forum Oh, also just thought, I am running this stuff on some pretty old machines, so I would like something not too CPU demanding, or demanding in any other way for that matter.

Hello, Any point using a fire-wall on Linux Mint? I would normally just turn it on, but I'm using a old acer-netbook that has an old Intel Atom. I'd rather not use something that would slow this system down any more than it already is. No sensitive info is on this machine, I only plan on using it for surfing the web. I'm referring to the UFW btw. Also, any tips for improving the cooling on an old acer-netbook that has an old Intel Atom? I need to overclock the fan . Thanks in advance and have a good day.

Full article here: http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/20/7013409/china-is-staging-a-nationwide-attack-on-icloud If the users are using Firefox or Chrome, They will get the pesky pop-up of "this site is not safe" (we have all encountered it at least once before), but on this instance, it's actually a good thing this popped up as un-secure, But bad news for those who run the most popular browser Qihoo... The login page looks identical to Apple's official page and users who didn't notice wouldn't be any the wiser. It's not just Apple this is affecting either. It's also affecting Microsoft's Live account services as well such as OneDrive and Hotmail/outlook, (what ever they wish to call it) According to the Verge most users can get around this false re-direction with the use of a VPN, but due to the censorship in China, this might not be possible as most VPN's are blocked, you can also access the real iCould website using one of Apples many ip addresses but because of the level this "attack" is being issued at, The Great Firewall, many lead to believe it is the government trying to access users data after the previous move by Apple to encrypt all of the users data. Looks like China is not happy with Apples recent motives to keep users data private. Remind you of any one (*cough, FBI, cough*) Although, I don't know why they are attempting to stop users from using Microsoft's Live services, because I thought MS was always compliant with Chinese laws.

Dear All, I am considering building a dedicated computer to run pfsense on as a firewall/router. Is there any advantage in going with server grade (Xeon, ECC memory) over consumer grade (i7..,NON-ECC memory) hardware? That is other than the obvious reliability that comes with server grade hardware is there any other reason to take this path? or would it be overkill? Would a simpler solution suffice (more economical)? I live in a house with three people with high internet usage and I am connected to a 1Gbps U/D fibre line. Any suggestions would be appreciate, I am new to self built firewalls/router set ups. Thanks in advance and any help would be appreciated. Best regards, Segamo

Hi All, Im using Bitdefender antivirus since about 4 years now, my licence is due to expire in 30 days, I have an 1 year licence of kaspersky which i received with my new MoBo, didn't activate it yet but i know it's Kaspersky Antivirus (No firewall included etc), plus it's the 2013 edition and it's not eligible for the free upgrade to KA 2014. Using Kaspersky will force me to go with a free firewall (Like Zone Alarm) which is not that good (At least that's what i heard) and buying a firewall makes no sense as being an old Bitdefender Customer i have discounts with their Bitdefender suite (I can buy a licence = 1 year, 3 computers for about 30e). Before i go out spending any money I would like to know which antivirus do you folks use and find the best for your use (Price/Quality)?
