Hey everyone, Here is a random one for you. I really like the icons for Mac OSX El Capitan, and someone has created Windows versions (.ico files) In the registry, I have changed it so that when a new folder is created, it will use the new icon. That part is fine. The issue I am having is, I tried it for "open folder" icons as well, but to no avail. I can go through and do it manually, but that would take so long. Is there an easy way to get around this? Completely wired and random, but I like messing around with user tweaks, if I'm using my computer all the time, I want it to look the way I want it to. (P.S. I'm running Windows 10 Pro, if that makes any difference) Thanks for your help!

So, I have or more like am going to have (not yet finished) a PC with an AMD FX 6350 and I will probably like it, but im scared It might bottleneck the GPU, and I also know that Intel CPUs are more "adopted" by most people. As in more motherboards, lots of apps preferring it (cough, cough ADOBE, cough.) and I would like to know a nicely priced preferably "K" Intel CPU that would be a good future upgrade and that wont nuke by wallet. Like an Intel brother of the AMD fx 6350 that would get me started on the Intel path. A good price would be for me around 150 - 200 EURO.

Greetings, Only one of my DVDs is region-locked, and sadly, it happens to be the box set of the original Star Wars trilogy- notably, the untouched theatrical release editions of all three on the bonus discs. Earlier, I had been able to use a program like Region X on my former computer (a 2009 Macbook Pro) and had been able to trick the DVD encryption. However, I do not know if it will work this way with the external USB CD/DVD drive I've been using since the internal drive failed. I'm looking for a program that functions similarly. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Regards, Aereldor.

Hi all! First of all I am using Windows 8.1. I have been experiencing this very annoying problem - whenever I am programming in my favorite text editor (Sublime text 2) and I need to change between English and my native language I hit shift+alt, which changes the language just fine, but with that it selects "File" from the top toolbar and stops my writing, at which point i have to replace my writing cursor (by clicking on the certain point of the text that I want to start writing at), after clicking it works fine. It is not really such a big deal, but having in mind i change languages every 10-30 seconds while writing, it becomes a problem that I have to place my cursor again and again every time I change language. And by now you are just burning to say that the problem is in the specific program - nope... It happens in basically every program with top toolbar (the bar with File, Edit etc), but not in the browser (chrome). Have any of you guys encountered this "problem"? And if yes, how did you fix it?

Windows 10 just changed how desktop links appear
UnknownEngineer posted a topic in Operating Systems
<1080p image of entire desktop I received no notification of this change, either it was done by windows 10 itself, or it was done by something malicious. (I see that as highly unlikely) Any way to change this back to normal? I preferred having a little white box on the bottom left of icons to a VERY visible green circle. Since when was this change introduced? And is it really done by windows? I remember messing up my file associations with Win7, that made adobe open all my .lnk files (quick links).- 12 replies

Orignial Source: Personal Experience Hey everyone, As I always do on YouTube, I was watching one of Linus's new videos and saw something kind of strange. Is YouTube planning on making another UI change to their platform. In the screenshot below, you can see the Player UI is different on Chrome than it is to Fire Fox, and we know that Google likes to try stuff out on their own browser, Chrome, first. Edit: To show it is not the stylish I have installed, here is a screenshot with my theme turned off. If this is the case and they are indeed planing on updating the UI, what are your thoughts? I personally quite like it. It looks clean and elegant compared to a black bar at the bottom of videos. If only they could improve upon other aspects of their site, *cough, sub boxes, cough*

I'll start with a small piece about how thankfull i am for a community such as this and for what Linus's videos have done for me. if it wasn't for his videos and the people here on this forum i wouldnt be sat here typing on my 6 month old gaming computer. (also for the friiend that showed me the way to his videos) The pc of which i am stupidly happy with as i didnt think i could build one before nor did i think i could. that aside, the point of my post.> (please excuse spelling its been a long day) After taking a gap year in the Canadian mountains and devlopiing an unhealthy obsession with moving there some day i took a course in the electrical trade with the intention of my hopes and dreams being fulfilled of moving out of this awful country. So now i am just starting my 3rd year of my apprenticeship and really starting to hate it.. severly. I love computers and i had no idea how muich uintl i realised that all of my hobbies revolve around creative software and computers at some point. Skateboarding> Video editing Playing Guitar> Making backing tracks on audio software. Gaming> explanation? I have many hobbies, Skateboarding of which recently broke my leg and dislocated my ankle which is why i sit here askling advice of the LTT community about my future in coding. My wonderfull girlfriend said why dont you try coding because of her course she allready has a good idea about this subject. Iv been taking a do this in your own time type online uni course. Unlike Electrics and the way the trade works and how the people are Coding seems like the way forward for a career choice. Work in somthing i enjoy rather than take any old trade and get in to canada. I guess my question really is Where do i start? What language do i start with? Any advice? Career advice? Any programmer puzzles and really helpfull lessons you have found online? Life as a programmer advice? Do i just quit my awful course or use that as a back up in case i screw things up? (i know the sensible thing to do would be to finish it for many reasons. (back up plan included) but with the way tech is moving forward surely there would be good prospects in the future.) Good courses to look for? Please anything you have, Vague as you think it may be i will google loads and loads to get the best idea i can about this choice. Or even if there is anyone else around that started training in somthing else and now work with computers and just wants to share thier experience please do. Anything goes in here even if you want to tell me im a god damn idiot (for a reason) Lastly im 24 Y.O./Male/ and i live on the south coast of England wishing i lived in Canada. D': Thanks for your time. EDIT>::: I must add i have read other similar threads before people say this same sort of thing has been answered but i just want to know your thoughts on my situation and just to spark some ideas and conversation.

Hi everyone, This may be a silly question but what happens if I switch out a CPU with another one that's still in the same platform? My friend wants to swap out his FX-6300 for an 8350 and asked me if anything will reset or change. I've no idea since I've always upgraded to new platforms when upgrading. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated!

Hello There, I have a 120GB SSD and it has 30GB space remaining (It has Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Visual Studio, Office, 3ds MAX, Unity... etc ). I have windows update turned OFF. I want to turn on my updates to get Windows 10. My Question is: Can anyone tell me how to change default location of windows updates. Meaning from C: drive (SSD) to D: Drive (HDD). Thanks, Best Regards,

Alright. I have searched everywhere for a Totourial and I haven't found anything on this. If you have used the g502 before with the software, you would have noticed the dpi lighting changes to green when you tune the mouse to your mouse pad. I was wondering if a good coder has learnt to code the driver to make that green permanent. There is probably a way because you activate the lighting from the driver and the green is also activated from it so if you could find a way to make that green perminent that would be great. This is for all good coders

Hey, so... right now in my PC I have 3 HDDs - 1TB WD Green, 2TB WD Green and 1TB Samsung or whatever taken out of external enclosure. I would like to make better airflow in the case, so I want to switch these 3 HDDs for one 4TB HDD and mount it on the very bottom of the case (H440). And as much as I would like a WD Black, its a little out of my budget. It costs over 220€... and my budget being 170€. Can you recommend alternatives? Thanks

My dad had this card returned to his store, and I got to keep it. So I've decided to play around with it, in order to create a guide on how to make the load identifying LED stay red. Typically with these GPUs, there are 3 colours that the LED will glow, to show the user how much load the GPU is under. If you're like me, and pretty pedantic about the colours inside your case, then you've probably already wondered why Asus don't let you set the colour yourself? Although theoretically possible, Asus don't seem to be releasing a driver update that allows you to do this any time soon. So that's where the fun part begins. NOTE: This is completely reversible and will not void your warranty. Start by removing the 2 screws on either side of the fan housing. http://i.imgur.com/bKNATfY.jpg Next, remove the plug that attaches the housing to the GPU. Then, Remove the screw that holds the LED module in place and unplug the module. On the plug for the module there are 5 pins in total. 1. Power 2. Earth 3. Blue Illumination power signal 4. Orange illumination power signal. 5. Red illumination power signal. As seen in the image, remove pins 3, 4 & 5. Then place pin 1 into the slot for pin 5. - To do this you will need to lift up the black tabs on the plug with a small screwdriver, while gently tugging the wire out from the back. - http://i.imgur.com/8m27die.jpg Next, isolate the pins 3, 4 & 5 and cover them so they don't short anything out. You can mark them with coloured electrical tape, like i have done. This will help when/if you reverse this process. (Unintentional McDonalds product placement & My Girlfriend's boobs) http://i.imgur.com/SkSrHk1.jpg Plug everything back in and mount the fan housing back onto the GPU. Place the GPU into your PC and enjoy the single LED colour. http://i.imgur.com/jnjDfFH.jpg Good luck.

Hello guys. I am running Chrome Version 42.0.2311.50 beta-m (64-bit) . When i go to chrome://plugins to disable the chrome flash player other flash players wont show in the list and i if i disable the chrome one it wont detect them so it think i have no other flash players do you have any idea why it wont detect them . Also while we are on the Chrome topic whenever i open a stream in Chrome the buffer size is a lot smaller and it buffers pretty frequently and when i open IE with the new spartan engine the streams on Twitch run much smoother .

I bought an SSD a few months back and I used the Samsung program to move my C drive onto the SSD. I forgot at the time to move the recovery partition at the same time. Now I need to reinstall windows but the recovery partition is on the wrong drive so I can't use it when I'm booting up. The Samsung program also won't do it. What do I do? In short: I need to move a partition and its contents onto a different drive

Eight things developers can do to make games less shitty for women", not that a lot of this pertain to action games and probably make more sense if you're thinking about first and third-person shooters, the Arkham games, and stuff like that: Avoid the Smurfette principle (don't have just one female character in an ensemble cast, let alone one whose personality is more or less "girl" or "woman.") "Lingerie is not armor" (Dress female characters as something other than sex objects.) Have female characters of various body types Don't over-emphasize female characters' rear ends, not any more than you would the average male character's. Include more female characters of color. Animate female characters to move the way normal women, soldiers or athletes would move. Record female character voiceover so that pain sounds painful, not orgasmic Include female enemies, but don't sexualize those enemies For the last three years, Anita Sarkeesian has been talking about how women are treated in games and has slammed the widespread sexism she sees in the portrayal of female game characters. She's done this through a series of online videos for her non-profit, Feminist Frequency, and in lectures at conferences and even at some game studios. Her supporters cheer the idea that her influence may transform the medium; her critics fear that. They both infer a lot from her analysis of games, but at her NYU talk she left no ambiguity. She spelled out what she wants to see done, what she thinks game developers should think about doing differently. Her list was brand new. "You get to be my guinea pigs," she said as she took to the podium in front of a couple hundred developers, game design students and gamers, "to see how this all works." Near the start of her talk, she apologized for being sick and said it was the first time she'd been ill in two years. She fought back a bad cough throughout an hour-long presentation but frequently elicited applause or laughter as she spoke. This was a friendly and game-savvy crowd "Motion capture and animations for female characters often have them looking like they're walking down a runway at a fashion show," she said. "It's as if the person directing the mo-cap session told the model to walk in the most seductive or sexy way possible rather than just asking her to walk the way a soldier or intergalactic bounty hunter or any ordinary woman going about her business might walk." Even sitting could be a gender issue, she showed. She ran clips of how male and female characters sit in Destiny, a game that imbues its heroes of either gender with the same capabilities. When the guy sits, he just sits, feet and butt on the ground, knees up. When the female character sits, she lays on the side of her legs. "This is supposed to be a hardened space warrior and yet she is still sitting around like she's Ariel from The Little Mermaid," Sarkeesian said. "I mean, what the hell?" The animation arguments were interesting but also demonstrated Sarkeesian's emphasis on the critique of what players see, more than what they do. She has certainly been critical of the interactivity that leads players to rescuing damsels in distress, but if, say, developers changed many of the Eight Things she requested in her talk, it wouldn't make games play differently, if at all. That might explain why her criticisms of gaming occupy a different spot than other people's criticisms about, say, free-to-play game design, game length, or downloadable content. Those latter arguments clearly and directly pertain to whether a game would be more or less fun or engaging for any player, which for many gamers is the paramount gaming concern. Arguments about the depiction of women, however, will find a sympathetic ear among those who, like Sarkeesian, believe that less sexualized and more diverse presentations of women will make games more approachable—more fun—for more people. They won't move people who might linger on the likely fact that changing how characters sit in Destiny or walk in Arkham City probably won't make those games play any better. Sarkeesian talked about how a more expansive range of female characters can open games up to new stories and experiences, but she doesn't flat-out say that it'd make an okay game more fun. That's not really her point. So it's easy to see how two people might sit through the same Sarkeesian presentation and think "This completely matters" and "This doesn't matter at all." Talk of gameplay brought Sarkeesian to her final point. She said she'd spoken with "well-meaning" game developers about how to handle female enemies. Many games use violence as their main means of interaction, she noted, and some developers were uneasy about if or how to put female enemies in harm's way. "Simply putting women in the line of fire is not in and of itself a problem," she said. "Everything depends on framing, right? So, with that in mind here are two things to keep in mind when designing female characters. One: avoid violence in which women are framed as weak or helpless. When we critique violence against women, we're often talking about violence in which women are being attacked or victimized specifically because they are women, which then reinforces or perpetuates a perception that women as victims and men as noble, brooding heroes... "Two, avoid violence against female characters in which there is a sexualized element." She praised BioShock Infinite's presentation of a Columbia police force whose male and female cops wear similar uniforms. "The ideal here," she said, "is to design combatants who just happen to be women." Of all of Sarkeesian's requests, I could see this being viewed as the most well-intentioned but creatively stifling one—Why not sometimes have a sexy female enemy? Why not sometimes let a character of any type be helpless or play up their gender?—and yet it also seemed to be the one where she was trying hardest to find ways through it and where she felt like there were the worst potential negative impacts. "Don't make the enemies or villains hyper-sexualized," she said, How do you balance creators' freedom with the need or desire to open a game up to a broader audience? How do you assess which portrayals of women in games attract or repel male or female gamers? How do we truly determine the impact of the characters we see or control on how we relate to those characters or view the world? Sarkeesian didn't lay out those questions, but those are the ones implicit in her critique. Those are the ones that supporters and critics of her views on women in games are likely to debate for a long time to come. Little of this is bound to be easy, and each of her eight requests are likely to stir debate about what gamers want, what developers can or should do, and what makes for better video games that more people will enjoy playing. Hey guys, Recently i decided to reinstall windows, as my old copy of it was starting to get cluttered and had been through multiple computers, thus even with my maintenance, it was slowing down due to bloat. I am now in the process of moving my data from te Windows.old directory. My problem is that my disk or windows is a Norwegian copy, and Norwegian is the only option for the setup language. I set anything i could to English, but on the first boot up everything was in Norwegian. After setting English as the main language, and downloading the language pack, most of the os is now in English. I say most, because stuff like the startup/ login screen, and parts of the control panel are still in Norwegian. My question is, is the any way to fix this other than downloading the Microsoft upgrade utility and reinstall the English version of windows over this?

hello; i saw this on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-Fan-Mount-Rack-PCI-Slot-Bracket-for-Video-Card-DIY-/251622181041 they are basically brackets to hold fan to blow air into the gpu. i have a stock cooler (rear exhaust blower type) gpu and was wondering if getting one of these will help improve temps ? any thoughts about this as well? i was thinking of mounting a corsair AF120 static pressure fan (just one) to blow air right on the gpu heat sink and the front blower will help exhaust the air.

is it possible to change lcd display in notebook that has resolution of 768p to better? like 1080p?
-
Hi, I have a new screen. My old one's width was 768 and my new one's is 1080. My old dpi was 800 and sensitivity was 0.975 (source games). Both have a 16:9 ratio. Math made: 768 -- 1080 800 -- x x=1125 SO SMART Is there anything else to it really? Cause I have a g502 and sensitivity nummaz r no problem0. It really is messed up to me cause for some reason I can adapt to sensitivities almost instantaneously and I only notice when it becomes difficult to turn or hit cause I've been jumping around games and sensitivities lately. So I just wanted to go back to the gud ole sensitivity I feel very comfortable in. Thank you for your time and help.
