Ankh Tech reacted to MantraWeasel in Experiences with non-techies
A short but true statement. Stupidity in the tech field cares not for age.

Ankh Tech reacted to Mojo-Jojo in How much watt is this psu?
Just don't do it. Don't skimp out on the PSU. Get a proper PSU that you know won't blow up on you.
Second hands are fine in my opinion, but I wouldn't use this even if it randomly showed up on my doorstep.
There's a tier list for PSUs on the forum, you can reference it to see what should be worth getting and what you should definitely not get.

This wasn't about "ignoring security", it's about "not wanting to be responsible for recommending security-related products".

It's almost as if it were designed to be intentionally malignant 🤔

Ankh Tech reacted to aisle9 in Are "Gaming Sticks" a legit thing?
You will hate yourself. Understand that if it's Intel-based, you are buying a small stick with a cheap Atom, Gemini Lake or Apollo Lake Celeron, something along those lines. As low-powered as those chips are, the cooling in those sticks is so bad that they still manage to throttle under any kind of heavy load. Ok, moderate load. The CPUs are weak enough as-is. You have to keep in mind the original use cases for stick PCs. They were intended primarily as Intel's answer to the multimedia sticks, like Fire sticks, but a little more powerful so that they can handle some lightweight home and office tasks if, for example, you have a very compact desk and need a tiny, cheap PC for basic work. As something like a torrent slave or a little 720p/1080p streaming box, they aren't horrible if you can find one around the $80 price that isn't an Atom-based piece of trash, but I wouldn't try emulating anything more intense than the SNES generation on one.
If it's an ARM SoC-based stick, everything I said above applies, you just can't run Windows. And on the anemic 4GB of RAM most of those come with (sometimes even 2GB still), you really can't run Windows on the x86-based sticks anyway, so yeah. If you can't afford something like a quad-core J3455, N5095 or, best of all, N5105 mini PC, the ARM-based units are better because they tend to cost less for similar performance, but you're not getting a great emulation platform no matter what you do with a stick PC.
Also, props to Vilcorn (the reseller) for their choice of logo. Thinly-veiled boobs with controller buttons on them. Very nice.

Is this for a technical drawing class or something?

Yeah that's completely fair. I just got alot of academic validation, and when school finally caught up, i finally knew im just like any other person. Anyways, doesn't mean it will stop me from learning unreal to begin game development. Speaking of non-techies tho, the amount of people in my school who osmetimes have trouble opening powerpoint worries me to this day

Just remembered a couple more funny stories.
Some 15 years ago, one bank in my country decided to install a flatbed scanner in each of their branches.
First branch: I get in with my scanner under my arm, locate the operator's computer and start connecting power and USB cable, when the manager rushes to me saying "NO! I already said I want that thing installed THERE!" (on the opposite side of the room).
One quick glance at the desired location was enough for me to tell him "sorry, you can't install it there..." and he arrogantly replies "and why wouldn't I? I decided it goes there and it has to go there!".
Me: "for two reasons: one, there's no power outlet, second, how am I supposed to connect it to the PC if it's 10 meters away?"
Him: "... why, does it have to be connected to a computer?!"
Second branch:
This time the manager didn't want anything fancy but I was seeing him curiously looking at the scanner... he was looking up, down, under it, until I asked him if I could help.
And he mumbled "I understand where the original document has to go but... where do I take the prints, afterwards?"
🤦♂️

TFW Tech illiterate iPhone Users are using an App which shows up as Full Screen and thus hides the Time and other Information in the top row and then ask what time it is. Like bro, just pull down from your stupid Notch and you'll see it. This move pulled my Boss last Friday and it took some restraint to remain calm lmao.
